1108 i experienced the summer heat in georgia. cant say i saw the devil down there, but it sure wouldve made basic training more interesting. i shaved my head, got plenty of shots and was given a rank. they taught me how to talk, how to march, to eat, to sleep, to bathe and to dress. they put a rifle in my hands and taught me how to shoot. they threw a man thrice my size and taught me how to fight. they gave me a knife and figured id know what to do with it. i saw the coming of a thousand bats every night from a window that would mock my freedom. i missed the ones who knew who i was before i left, as i missed the one they knew. i left my heart with the girl who wrote me every night and regret that i didnt kiss her at least once more every day. i earned the trust of 50 soldiers and grew the reputation of a leader amongst 150 others. i made money off of the profession i once spat upon. i graduated knowing a big fight in a big sandbox was waiting for me to join in. i left georgia with a fresh haircut and a pocket full of dough. up to date, im still the same person you saw the day i left though i can honestly admit that ill never see you the same way again. i missed you all a shit-load and ill be home sooner than you know it. ready the fire wont you?
