The National Alliance on Mental Illness works to educate mental health consumers and their families and friends, as well as to eradicate stigma surrounding mental illness. We would like the world to know that these are biological illnesses in the brain, not a fault of character, strength, willpower, etc. and that people with these illness can lead happy and productive lives, with treatment. People with these illness should not be villified or feared or otherwise stigmatized.
