About Me

Keeping it brief because getting personal is best left for another venue: Mauibuilt. Grad BHS '93, went to ASU then grad UH '99. Back in school for yet another degree.

My Interests

Sleeping. Reading. Drinking. Hanging with old friends, and sometimes new ones. Those long, intense, wandering, exciting, tingling, surreal conversations you can only have with someone that hits that rare combination of brains and beauty.

I'd like to meet:

If you make me laugh, expand my reality and my possible worlds, and celebrate daily existence with copious amounts of food and drink - let's be friends! As for all things romantical, Hedwig puts it best - still looking for the Origin of Love:

"It is clear that I must find my other half, but is it a he, or a she? What does this person look like? Identical to me? Or somehow complementary? Does my other half have what I don't? Did he get the looks? The luck? The love? Were we really separated forcibly or did he just run off with the good stuff? Or did I? Will this person embarrass me? What about sex? Is that how we put ourselves back together again? Or can two people actually become one… again?"

"last time I saw you / we had just split in two
you was looking at me / i was looking at you
you had a way so familiar / but I could not recognize
'cause you had blood on your face / i had blood in my eyes
but I could swear by your expression / that the pain down in your soul
was the same as the one down in mine
that's the pain / cuts a straight line
down through the heart / we called it love
so we wrapped our arms around each other / trying to shove ourselves back together
we was making love / making love"

Music:

Eclectic (or is that eccentric?!), like everything else about me. Cake. Me First and the GimmeGimmes. The Doors. Bon Jovi. Depeche Mode. Billy Joel. Air Supply. Chicago. Frank Sinatra. Gregory Isaacs. Olomana. Keahiwai.... you get the idea - I'm all over the place.

Movies:

I like weird movies. So I've been told. What I've figured out is that I like visual and audio feasts, never mind the plot. I like strange B movies, can't ever figure out why. And off-beat romantic comedies, ala John Cusack. Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. Adventures of Baron von Munchausen. Willow. Dark Crystal. Tron. Krull. Princess Bride. Last Starfighter. Pi. Gone with the Wind. My Fair Lady. Charade. Breakfast at Tiffany's. Guys and Dolls. Dream for an Insomniac.Face Off.Grease AND Grease 2. Blade. Batman. X-Men. Fight Club. Tarentino, particularly Four Rooms. And all those baseball movies... The Natural, *61, Bull Durham, For the Love of the Game... And a new fave, thanks to Drenny-boy-lost and his arts-y friends:
Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
"I feel so OPTIMISTIC!!"
And for when I'm actually feeling optimistic...
"Anything less than
mad, passionate, extraordinary love
is a waste of your time."
Your Life is Like Say Anything...
"I gave her my heart...
she gave me a pen."
Your Famous Movie Kiss is from Cruel Intentions
"I'm the only girl you can't have,
and it kills you."

Television:

Haven't owned one for years.... I love SciFi Channel when I can catch it - never get enough Quantum Leap and Sliders. LOVE MacGyver. How can you not love a man who can fix anything with a stick of gum and a safety pin?And I love Sex in the City, much as I hate to admit it. There's nothing quite so calming for a Saturday afternoon hangover than a grilled cheese sandwich, tortilla soup, and some SNC.
You Are Most Like Carrie!

"I've outgrown the boys of my past, and not yet grown into the men of my future."

Books:

Stephen King: is the man... He created an entire Universe in his head - Love the Stand, but the Dark Tower series is my favorite. I'm a freak for Aaron Elkins' books - who doesn't love humorous murder-mysteries solved by a forensic anthropologist?! The book I read to every science class I've ever taught - The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss. There are too many THNEEDS in this world, I find a new one everyday. Right now on my nightstand: Pintrich & Hofer's Personal Epistemology (yes, again). Anti-Gravity by Steve Mirsky (yes, Scientific American cracks me up). A collection of Pablo Neruda's poetry, translated by Stephen Mitchell.

Heroes:

Anyone who has made a positive difference in the life of another. It takes courage and strength to help others without expecting anything in return but good karma. On a lighter note - Batman. A real man, with tools to enhance. :) I love my family and friends more than anything else in the entire universe - I consider my friends part of my family, so I guess that was redundant. and i miss my pup lots... good thing we were able to work out visitation rights! :)
