About Heidi from Heidi Wilson herself;
Hello everyone :)
My name is Heidi Wilson, born Sept 22,1990, I am 18 years old from Palmer, Alaska....I'm a photographer and a musician.
I currently reside in Cary, North Carolina, but only temporarily.
Music has always been a part of my life since I can remember. Photography however is a bit on the new side. I believe I started getting interested in photography in 2004 and it wasn't until 2006 that I really expanded my knowledge of photography and fell in love with the art.
I’ve found many great urban photographers to be of inspiration. It wasn’t until I got my first professional camera that I was really able to push my abilities and explore the art.
I have never had any instruction in photography, everything that I have learned has been self-taught. I’ve found inspiration in some photographers’ work, but I have never had a teacher of any sort. I’d just like to get that out in the open, because I’ve been asked and I’ve heard things going around that some may be thinking that I’ve had a private instructor, and this is far from the truth. Believe me when I say, if I had ANY instruction in photography, from a private person, friend, or school, you all would know about it, and I would gladly post about it. I feel that those who educate you in an area, regardless what it is, they deserve recognition. And, in this case the only one to recognize would be myself. i am proud of what I have achieved on my own, and everything I know in photography. Every skill I have picked up has been every trick I have learned, has been completely on my own, with my own trial and errors.
My photography grew a lot after receiving my Nikon N65 film camera. However, being a film camera and having many errors it was a bit of a hassle. And at the costs of film and developing it seemed to be unrealistic and too expensive. I had to really plan when I was going to take great photos and be sure that every moment I used would never be waisted. I missed out on a lot of opportunities to photograph, but the ones I did were great!
In the year 2007 for my 17th birthday I purchased/got a Nikon D40x and two Nikkor lenses. because of the cost I bought some of it cause I didn't want my parents spending that much money on me...so the gift wasn't really a surprise but I am very thankful towards my parents.
I have since then expanded my lens collection and equipment collections. I carry many different lenses, some Tamron, but mostly Nikon lenses. As for the rest of my photography equipment, I buy whatever works... I try to find most things used in good condition, this saves a lot of money. Photography is NOT a cheap hobby!
ahh the wonders of digital photography....and tele photography and macro and portraits and rock shows and everything else! it was just great. :) I can't thank my parents enough for helping me with this new hobby of mine.
To this day I currently live in Cary, North Carolina, and am still photographing. I have not yet decided if I will study a little bit of photography in college. So far, I am leaning towards, No. This is mostly because I feel that I am capable of learning everything I need to know on my own. But really I’m not sure yet. In the fall of 2009 I will be attending college in either North Carolina or Massachusetts. I plan on majoring in music performance/education.
