More potent than the high-powered fusebox that carries his namesake, homegrown Jacksonville sensation City Boy will definitely get lifted this summer with the release of his Untame Ent/CEB debut, THUG MUZIK.' On this musical autobiography, the 23-year-old rapper narrates his life from poverty to falling prey to dead-end recording deals to obtaining his dreams of becoming an accomplished emcee.But even though the young shot caller has grown accustomed to popping tags, riding big and rocking ice, City Boy hasn't always been the flashy, errogant rapper that he is today.Born Eddie Brown in the nefarious Blodget Home Court housing project, City Boy grew up the fifth oldest of his mother's five girls and the second amongst his father's 3 children. Although his mother did the best that she could to keep a roof over their heads,City Boy spent much of his childhood drifting from one housing complex to the next.'I'm from every project, shawty,' he remembers. 'We kept getting evicted. Them folks kept putting us out. I done lived in Hollybrook Homes, Hill Top homes, Boldget Homes, Riverside, Durkeyville,. You can drop me off in all the spots barefoot, and I'm at home.'It was during these many moves in his teen years that he befriended the now Untame Ent CEO ''POPPY''. Both of the two took music seriously. City Boy didn't even consider a career in music until another one of his friends, Cought him writing rap song for other artist.'I always loved hip hop,' City Boy confesses. 'I would just stand on the block and everybody telling me 'Boy, that was tight.' But after I saw Young Cash, that's what really made me want to start doing music.'To make his dream a reality, he first hooked up with pioneering southern rapper Mike Jones, then Webbie of Trill Ent, MGeezy and T Pain who at the time had other rappers signed to his local label. By the end of 2002, City Boy had the city ablaze with his independent hit single ''Does it real good'' and regional hit album 'Thug muzik''.' Around the same time,.Just puff on the smoking lead single ''City Boy wit me''.' Atop a mid-tempo groove and hypnotic piano loop, City Boy boasts on the rewards for his sacrifice and determination. In a confident swagger, he chants: Everybody knows me in the club cause they fuck wit me. 'It's a lean that playas do,' says City Boy, explaining the song's accompanying two-step. 'Since everybody is dancing, I'ma show them that everybody ain't trying to dance. I be a little fresh in the club; I might have on Purple Label or something. I ain't trying to do too much but lean. Plus, it's something that playas can do. I ain't asking you to do too much or get out of character.''THUG MUZIK'' also features the Artist, The Castawayz, Big D, Florida Boy,' where City Boy pops his collar over laid-back production, breezy guitar strums and Sunday morning organs. He spits: 'Body full of City Gear, fresher than a bitch now/ Real Nigga status make my hoes get at your bitch now/ Oakley on; oh man, I'm the shit now/ Thick bank roll- I think I hit a lick now.' And on the up-tempo anthem 'Robbery,' City Boy flips flamboyant phrases of his thirst for extravagance on a driving drum track assisted by a Spanish guitar and simmering sonesta.'There a lot of songs on the album that'll let a person know who I am,' says City Boy.Now Read about that.
