Mexican Dolls was born when Dave Alatorre, a Mexican Rocker, was travelling on a train from Melbourne to Sydney. He was talking with a girl about his reason for coming to Australia. He was determined to create a rock band and be part of rock history. Nacho Ibanez, a Spanish Rocker who was sitting behind him, overheard the conversation and walked over to Dave. After a short conversation and a handshake the Mexican Dolls was born.
They posted announcements all over the city calling for a guitarist and bass player. It was then Martin D'Alesio appeared. Since the three of them were fans of Glam Rock, they started to dress up with a glam style.
One night, wearing the glam outfits, they went to a pub in Bondi Beach were they met a local producer. Impressed by the Doll’s appearance, he requested to hear some original material. This gave the guys motivation to start writing their own music, the first example of which was the track “Mexican Dollsâ€. They uploaded the song on MySpace. The response was overwhelming and from that moment, they started to write many more songs. Nacho was staying in Bondi Beach, sharing a house with a businessman named Nicklash who listened to the songs and was very impressed. He talked to the guys about managing them and getting “Mexican Dolls†on the go. The band liked the idea and signed a contract for management with Nicklash. All the members moved to the same house in Lamrock Avenue, Bondi Beach, and in that moment, they renamed the street “Glamrock Avenueâ€, set up a rehearsal and recording studio, and recorded their first album: “Rock Your Soulâ€
The first gig was at “La Campana†in the Spanish quarters of Sydney. The club manager was so pleased with the show that he asked them to play every week. They also played at “Candy´s Apartment†where they were headlining a rock event. This is where they recorded their first video clip which is currently being edited.
When Whitesnake´s tour was announced in Australia, Nicklash contacted the company organizing the Tour, and they shortly thereafter confirmed Mexican Dolls would be supporting Whitesnake in Brisbane at The Tivoli, and in Sydney at Enmore Theatre. The band received a fantastic response from around 2000 Whitesnake fans, who said they are a fresh version of bands like Poison and Motley Crue.
As the position of base player was uncertain, the Dolls sent for Nacho..s brother: J.B. Ibanez who was currently on tour with his band Stop Stop in Europe. When hearing about the Whitesnake support, he was so thrilled that he landed in Sydney 48 hours later to join the “Mexican Dolls†for their first major performance.
Since then, the band is receiving constant and consistent requests for an official album release. This is why Mexican Dolls is currently looking for a way to make this happen.
Recently, the Mexican Dolls have finished production of their first Video Clip. The Single is the self-titled song "Mexican Dolls". The Clip was recorded in HD @ Glamrock Avenue Studios (Australia), under the direction of Mike Kristen.
