Aakosya (formerly known as the artist Tasha T) has been working to become an accomplished entertainer (not just a “singerâ€) since her early teenage years.
Aakosya was born in Ft. Worth Texas and from age three (3) her musical gifts began to surface. She always loved to sing and at an early age her love for music and the urge to perform grew stronger. At age seven (7), she began to perform at church and in school activities as a soloist or with friends. She remained a member of groups throughout her teenage years but after an extended visit to New York (after graduating from high school) she was faced with the prospect of becoming a solo artist.
Working as a solo artist for the first time was a blessing in disguise. Aakosya was required to create her own sound and the result was an eye opening and creative renaissance for her career. She was free to write, produce and create the artist that has become Aakosya. Her powerful voice and genuine lyrics is a breath of fresh air for the proud American/Ghanaian songstress.
2008 is a fresh beginning for Aakosya (which is Ghanaian for born on Sunday). Although born in the United States she is proud of her Ghanaian cultural roots. Formerly known as Tasha T, she decided to change her name to Aakosya to honor all of the hard work and support that her Ghanaian born mother and step father has provided to her.
Aa’kosya promises to display the pride that she has in her family, Ghanaian culture, American roots and the fact that she is a young independent woman, in the music that she creates for the world. She feels that you can be strong, sexy and independent without succumbing to the stereo typical Hip-Hop or pop visions that the media loves to exploit. Look for Aa’kosya to create music that she hopes everyone will enjoy.
