E-troit Electronic Music Festival
Introduction On Saturday, August 23, 2008, a new chapter opens in the history of electronic dance with the first edition of E-troit Festival in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Though the festival is new, the music is legendary. E-troit simultaneously promotes quality electronic dance music while paying homage to Detroit and the role it played in the development of this truly unique style of music known as Techno. E-troit Festival is Eindhoven's contribution to this development, featuring leading international acts alongside the country's most prominent regional talents.
But Eindhoven is not new to the cause. Legendary venues such as Effenaar and Shine Festival put Eindhoven on the map as a place where real music lovers could go for guaranteed quality. The city became a haven for groundbreaking performers who were creating a music utopia and an environment where electronic music could blossom. Eindhoven music pioneers such as Miss Djax, Lady Aïda and the Acid Junkies along with organisations such as Zodiak Commune and the former Drum ‘n Bass heroes of Red Zone have played a prominent role in the development of music that is unique and accessible at the same time.
But as with any good thing in the music industry, the good soon becomes accompanied by the bad. Commercialised souless tracks, emotion-free dance concepts. Quality events like Simple Festival, Edit and Virus have ended. E-troit Festival is here to fill that void. The brainchild of DommelVallei, the techno organisation that was born out of the desire to bring the world good music, is at the heart of E-troit Festival.

It may be new but it's here to stay. E-troit Festival has lofty goals over the coming few years. The first may seem easy. Throw a high quality outdoor festival. Check. August 23, Stadhuisplein, Eindhoven. Feature a well-balanced mix of local artists and renowned international artists. Check. Just look at the line-up. Create a program that gets people dancing for hours on end. Check. Keep the party going with after an afterparty which brings different styles to suit even the most discriminating tastes. Check.
E-troit Festival will be expanded to include multiple venues for the afterparty, workshops, symposia, seminars and small intimate performances for a select crowd will be organised. All this in just five short years.
But forget the future. The birth of a legend is right around the corner so come make history. The outdoor festival is held at Stadhuisplein. The afterparty in Club Rembrandt. High quality sound and light, a food area and a large parachute tent on the festival site included. And what better way to kick off the festivities than with Eindhoven's first Lady Aïda doing a two-hour set. This first edition will give you techno at its finest. And one thing's for sure….thou shalt dance.
