Alex was born in Nicaragua and raised in Southern Caifornia. His first experience with music was with the accordian when he was 6; later on he took up the violin in Jr. High, but his true love emerged when he heard "Stairway to Heaven" by Jimmy Page. He took private lessons with the original Slayer guitarrist Russ Dismuke . Later on he studied music at Cerritos College and Cal State Dominguez Hills. He won a scholarship to study there. Back then it was classical guitar but his true calling was jazz/rock fusion. He studied with Ramai Das (legendary jazz bassist/pianist of Nicaragua, you can check him out on youtube) and has done private studies with the great Frank Potenza here in L.A. and studied the techniques of Frank Gambale, among many others. He has played with the top musicians of his native country; was a member of SYNAPSIS that won the "Festival Interuniversitario" in 1994. Was the original guitarist of STOP, a Nicaraguan pop group in 1998 ( you can see the video on youtube under "A Fuego Lento"; was the guitarist of the Gandarva Jazz Quartet which featured such prominant Nicaraguan players as Ramai Das (who recently has been invited by none other than Danilo Perez to participate in the Panama Jazz Festival this year; acompanied various prominant Nicaraguan singers as Katia Cardenal (2002), Maria Belen, and Luis Pastor, Engel Ortega; and played with other Nicaraguan guitarists like Andres Sanchez with Jazz-ta, Pablo Rodriguez, Julio Vazquez and Eduardo Araica.; was a member of "Along For The Ride" most recently hear in Long Beach where he helped them record their CD as the guitarist. Participated in "La Oti" 1999 in Managua where his group won third prize with the song "LA URBE". Now he is in the process of recording his new CD: Como Asi? (How's That).
