We are a group of friends raising money and gathering volunteers to help families in the St. Bernard Parish of New Orleans who still do not have homes. After the storm, 100% of homes were uninhabitable. It has been two years since Hurricane Katrina and many families continue to wait for assistance in rebuilding their houses. 60% of homes are still uninhabitable. Families are still waiting for insurance reibursements and some still await a modest FEMA trailer. The families who were fortunate enough to receive FEMA trailers live in their front yards while their home is still in ruins. Some families have been split up; one member lives in the small trailer while trying to earn money and rebuild the family's home, while the rest of the family lives in another town or even state. There is very little temporary housing or rental housing available for them to live nearby. So we are joining the St. Bernard Project, a nonprofit organization in rebuiling St. Bernard. This organization was founded soley based on community need and survives on community support. We are spending one week in February to give our time to the community. The St. Bernard Project is funded by United Way. 100% of donations to St. Bernard goes directly to the purchase of building supplies. $1 buys 100 nails! Message us for more information if you would like to volunteer with us or help raise money. embed allowScriptAccess="never" src="http://lads.myspace.com/slides/photoslider.swf?u=297520 627&aid=629971" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="445" height="230" FlashVars="culture=en-US" wmode="transparent"..

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

The unfortunate families in St. Bernard Parish who are still living in FEMA trailers awaiting help to rebuild their homes. Anyone willing to pick up a hammer, a broom, a drill and rebuild a life for someone in need. Anyone willing to give of themselves; to sacrafice time in order to make another family feel loved. Anyone who supports our efforts in New Orleans.
