Clear At The Edge

About Me

Clear at the Edge was formed in 2002 by Christopher Barrett and Joshua Kesner. Christopher Barett, a guitarist from West Virginia, moved to New Wilmington, PA in the summer of 2002. It was at Wilmington Area High School where Christopher met Joshua Kesner, the lead singer. Joshua Kesner was born in Youngstown, OH but moved to New Wilmington at age six. It was during the beginning of Joshua and Chris' sophmore year in 2001 that these two young men met. Both were members of the High School chior that year and soon the two became fast friends. In 2002 the two began to make music together. They titled the band "Clear At The Edge." The meaning of the band name is derived from the moment of clarity a soul has when one is on the brink of death. At the moment when the soul believes it is going to escape this world, it achieves an enlightenment that unfortunately falls away when they return to this world. Joshua had been writing lyrics since he was 10 years old. Joshua, also a pianist, finally found a competant musician with a similar style for which he could match his lyrics to.As students, Joshua and Chris continued to write their music despite that Chris moved to another school. The two put together a small time album, recorded on pro equipment in May of 2003. This album was titled "Farewell For Now" and was a goodbye album to family and friends. The album was titled as such, becuase Joshua was enlisted into the US Army and left for Army basic training on June 24th, 2003. The most popular track, "I'll Be Back Tomorrow," was a temporary goodbye to both members' girlfriends. Shortly after Joshua's departure for the Army, Christopher Barret joined the US Air Force. Chris left for Air Force basic training in December 2003.Between June 2003 and July of 2005 the two did little recording and the band went dormant. Between Chris being stationed in Las Vegas, NV and Joshua being deployed to Iraq (with a home station in Watertown, NY), both continued to write but had little to no contact during this time period. Upon reuniting after Joshua's return from Iraq, the two immediatly began working on practicing their old music and putting together new music. Chris then was stationed in Korea. It was around this time that Joshua was then stationed in San Antonio, TX. Since Joshua's return from Iraq in July of 2005 Clear at the edge has been continually creating new music. Though the vast majority of their songs are only guitar and vocals, there have been several songs that include guest musicians as well. All of Clear At The Edge's music since this time has been over no less than 4000 miles. The guitar tracks were recorded and sent through email to Joshua to be added to.Today, Clear At The Edge continues to make music this way. Joshua was honorably discharged from the Army in November 2007. Christopher continues to make music from his station in Italy. Upon the culmination of Chris' enlistment in the Air Force, the two plan to master a studio album and go on tour. This enigmatic duo has overcome overwhelming odds to produce their music together. Despite the challenges, the magic that these two have combined through their music has produced a unique sound. This band plays for the love of the music.

Band Members: Joshua M. Kesner-Vocals Christopher J. Barrett-Guitar
Influences: Joshua Kesner's Influences-My influences are far and wide. One of my biggest influences is my father, Tim Chito. He was the lead guitarist of Darkstar and I grew up in music. I was also influenced by Ozzy, Green Day, Johnny Rotten from Sex Pistols, Drowning Pool, Sully Erna from Godsmack, Finger Eleven, Metallica, Dio, Eddie Veder of Pearl Jam and Shine Down. Always liked the classical side of Kansas and Evanescence. Greatest classical influence is Ludwig von Beethoven.Christopher Barrett's Influences-Mine are definitely different. It's kind of funny cause' you'd think that a band's influences would have an impact on how they sound. Most of the time it does, however, my situation is a bit different. I started out on the Smashing Pumpkins. I was totally in love with their raunchy alternative style of sound. I later got into Metallica and Megadeth so on and so forth. I think the biggest influence on me acoustically was Staind. Their aggressive metal mixed with that acoustic sweetness that Aaron Lewis does so well, drew me in hardcore.
Sounds Like: Staind Fuel
