Here rests a tribute page to one who touched so many. A Forever Freebird. Lee being like a brother to me and loved and befriended by many prompted me to give him this one last respect and tribute.........
We all have our own visions, memories, and fondness of him. But for his About Me page, here's how I see Lee.
Lee now sits on that long strip of Heaven's Highway. He sits there forever vigil on the hood of a 65 GTO. His eyes watch Elysium; the forever hunting grounds as he knows now like the deers he used to hunt he is now free.
And freedom is the black and white Fender cradled in his fingers as he now plays with the chorus of angels. His song is bittersweet, both bringing smiles and tears to all who his songs touched and still touches.
The sun is bright, but he don't mind. He lowers the brim of a Stevie Ray Vaughn hat and continues his song. It is long, then again he has forever on his side.
Children gather to his car. He stoops low as he plays as a tender smile greets them. He plays still, unknowingly he has started a trend that will be forever etched in the hearts of the young gathered. A gift of music, a gift of life, and last but not least the gift of hope.
His strength radiates through his combinations of songs. A strength most of us only wish we had. It is the power to smile in the face of adversity and strife. The power to deny the fates for so long what they tried to steal. They could not steal his soul which could not be taken, but he glady gave to us he loved to share.
And old friend of mine and his once told us.."When The Music Dies.. So Does Life.." In that case we know we have no fear...for then Lee is immortal.
Forever is he too etched in us.. his friends, his family, his loved ones. As though he pauses from his playing to slip the guitar in his trunk. He turns to us with his trade mark mischevious laugh as he closes the trunk and hops in the driver seat. With nothing more to say he places a cigarette to his lips and thumps the canopy with his well known "get you some.."
We smile back .....and yell to him..drive on ahead... we'll catch up. His tires squall and he's racing again.....heaven embracing him..hell fearing him as he makes his way to the winner circle. And we continue to race the race..... with him a champion to us
