Kiirstin Calister-Kuhi was born and raised in the great state of New Jersey. She moved to New York 8 years ago to pursue an acting career beginning with an education at Marymount Manhattan College. She spent her junior year of college doing an "independent study" on tour with the Networks National Tours' B'dway production of CABARET. Senior year saw more acting classes and the role of "Edwin Drood" in the musical comedy THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD directed by Marsha Milgrom Dodge (Dir - B'dway Revival of Ragtime). Upon graduating Kiirstin accepted another offer to perform in CABARET at the Westchester Broadway Theatre where she received her Actors' Equity Membership. After only 6 months of being a member Kiirstin decided to put theatre on a back-burner to pursue music full-time. In May of 2005 she joined 4 boys from Hoboken and formed the hard-rock band Ground to Machine. They saw many great accomplishments such as a Northeast tour in the fall of 2006, playing The Bamboozle Festival 2007 (headlined by My Chemical Romance and Muse), and playing The Saints and Sinners Festival 2007 (headlined by Glassjaw). After 2 1/2 years of hard work and many lessons learned, Miss Calister-Kuhi realized it was time to move on. With her brother Mikal, she started the band Hip Like [blank], who's music can be heard at www.hiplikeblank.com. Hip Like [blank] has opened for MAE, is in talks with Camp Entertainment Management, and is looking to record their second EP by the end of summer 2009. Kiirstin is very excited at the pace with which her band has progressed in such a short amount of time and she looks forward to future successes and acheivements in music.
*Kiirstin is happy to announce she will be featured on the new Kazenetz and Katz Allstars album singing "Somebody Help Me." Check out the video for this song below:
