Road Trip
My musical life began at the age of 6 playing the guitar, which incidently started my performing live career. This was in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. I learnt by reading music. My private teacher, who also taught piano, steel guitar, and voice, would take her best students of each instrument to perform at recitals. So I became her best guitar student that first year and started performing live. I was with her about two and half years and then from one week to the next, I started working with a rock 'n' roll teacher, a high schooler named Chuck Smith. Chuck was great. He was a type of player that when he got home from school he would play until it was time to go to bed, only stopping for dinner. He taught me a different way to barre my chords and to work my leads from that. This allowed the free use of moving my thumb around to get different bass notes, to get different sounding type of chords. He, also, accompanied me, in the background, at two talent shows two years in row. It was at the local college, the Unversity of Northern Oklahoma. He, also taught me how to pick out songs by ear. That was the only way he learned songs, so that's when I started working on developing my ear to pick out songs. I was with him for about a 2 and a half years. So in the beginning, this was from the second to the sixth grade, I had 5 years of formal lessons, which helped build my musical foundation. After that, I practiced lots of hours, researched many different styles of music, harmonization, and counter-point, and studied on my own, I kept on working, building that foundation.Performing live started in the second grade by playing recitals. During the fifth grade and sixth grade, I started entering talent contests. I, also, played for my fifth and sixth grade class, of which I put on a rock 'n' roll show for my sixth grade class, which featured dancing girls and signs. Lol. My sixth grade music teacher must have loved it.My professional career started in the eighth grade. At this time, I was in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, my birthplace. My friends and I had put together a band and we began playing at parties and high school dances. Imagine that. It was pretty neat being a kid and playing high school dances. I started playing nightclubs and bars when I was 15 of which I never did have a problem with the law coming in asking for my ID. I only had to have a note from my parents in the register, saying it was ok for me to play there. Only thing was I was writing the notes. Another funny thing was, that I was still able to get beer. Back to the story, the niteclubs & bars scene started then and I've been doing it ever since.Throughout the years, I've played in lots of bands in all types of venues. Also, I picked up learning other instruments along the way. I learned to play the piano, bass, drums, and sing lead and backup. I, also, at one time played the flute. I was suppose to had been learning the sax, but the high school was out of saxaphones. So, they put me on a flute, cause the fingering is very similar.Getting back on track, the music here are all originals. I've played all the instruments, plus did all the engineering, mixing, and mastering the recordings. These are mainly demos for me without the vocals. A scratchpad to listen to ideas, so to speak. By the way, I'm always on the lookout for other musicians or bands that might share the same values. Thanks for listening.
