Burning Fields is the solo project of prolific musician Derek Ethridge. Songwriters sitting behind the piano or electric keyboard are nothing new. However, sitting behind a keyboard while singing and playing drums at the same time is. But this is no avant-garde, experimental noise outing like Ethridge’s NYC cohorts Flux Information Sciences. The music is melodic, well crafted, thoughtful and at times emotional. While playing an amped up keyboard with one hand and drums with the other, those who have never seen it live but have only heard it have mistaken it for a full-piece band.
