Hello. My name is Joanne and I’m an alcoholic.
No. Not really – but sometimes it's tempting. :-) I am an ethical vegetarian, an animal lover, a tree hugger, an inveterate reader, a knowledge junkie, lots of other things and just an all around nice person (depending on who you ask :-). I’m a compulsive idealist. I dream of the world being a kinder and gentler place...but like others who have had the same dream, I know that means first making the change in myself. That and a lot of hard work. So, in my own little way, I try to make my world as good as I can and I try to do as much as I can to make the world in general a better place for all beings and trust that, in the end, it all means something.
I hope that you find something of interest or enjoyment or enlightenment here and that if you do, you will let me know. I’m always eager to meet new friends and learn new points of view.
Life really is an exciting journey...and isn't it grand that we have this medium in which to share it!?!?!
I read somewhere that words are the voice of the heart. I think that must be true because for as long as I can remember, I've been inspired and motivated by the written word. I've included some of my favorite works in my Blog section so that, if you choose, you can enjoy them too. Here are two passages that have been particularly meaningful to me over the years because, I think, they highlight the magic in "ordinary" lives:
I was born to catch dragons in their dens
And pick flowers
To tell tales and laugh away the morning
To drift and dream like a lazy stream
And walk barefoot across sunshine days.
~~James Kavanaugh in "Sunshine Days and Foggy Nights "
and this from _Anne of Green Gables_:
....if the path set before her feet was to be narrow she knew that flowers of quiet happiness would bloom along it. The joy of sincere work and worthy aspiration and congenial friendship were to be hers; nothing could rob her of her birthright of fancy or her ideal world of dreams. And there was always the bend in the road!
And, if you haven't guessed,
