Exile's story is long and starts when GHP (Giacomo Pio) and Jake Wolven (Jacopo Purificati) were children. Both were 13 years old and loved Nirvana's music and decided to create a post-grunge band (which first name was The Taxi Men) with their friend 2G (Giorgio Gallicchio), obviously nobody really knew what was a real band, that means to be musically prepared and responsible; after one year they met 7reek (Fabio
Fischione) which became the bass player. But Jake Wolven wasn't attending the Scientific High School as the others, but the Grammar High School, which meant that he couldn't spend time with the others because of his studies. GHP had to go ahead without his best friend and labeled with grief. After a while, Jake resolved his study problems but he decided to sing in another band, so for GHP in that moment 7reek's friendship was vital. They changed name and became Les Connes Cannes (The Stoned Jerks...but it doesn't really mean that in french...) with the new bass player Undy (Giorgio Mazzullo).
The band goes well because of the work of everyone, but most of all because of 7reek's guitar, which was like a guide for the band and GHP's lyrics,
sometimes short and stupid, sometimes full of meaning. But when they recorded their first demo, "Religious", something goes wrong: 7reek and GHP's friendship became really weak. The recordings weren't a success, most of all because GHP's voice. He could have stayed, weakening the others, or just leave 'em. But to leave them meant to abandon his best friends and GHP didn't intend to pass another period like Jake's. 7reek pulled his strings and made him take a choice in a week, in which 7reek treated GHP as they were never been friends. For GHP, it was a bad moment: he was sad and weak, he wanted to stay in a band that didn't want him.
One day, while he was out for a walk he met Jake, who saw him sad. The two guys started to talk about when they were young, about what happened, about GHP's problems and about Jake's rows with his band. At the end GHP asked Jake to make a reunion of The Taxi Men and he accepted. After some days GHP quitted with Les Connes Cannes but with Undy, who became the bass player. Les Connes Cannes became The Black Teardrops.
Then they called the drummer Snape (Davide Serpetti) and reached their perfect forrmation.
ABOUT OUR MUSIC
Our first songs weren't that thing we call "metal", but we learned the lesson. Take the best from your inspirations and revist it all with your skills, your feelings and your mind. And, of course, add something new and be innovative. The speed and the power of Metallica's first albums, the musicality of Megadeth's songs, the metal spirit soaked in dreams of Iron Maiden...these are the ingredients of Exile's music.
Lyricswise, Jake Wolven takes inspiration from every band he listens to (from Led Zeppelin to Pantera), while GHP gets inspired by Korpiklaani's love for beer and mystic descriptions , Nirvana's hate for life and Dave Mustaine's determination.
Actually, their first months together weren't so professional...Jake intended to have fun with the band, but when things became more serious, he decided to cut out the past, to forget it. To start a new life in the name of thrash metal.
Even the name wasn't serious and wasn't linked with Snape and Undy at all. So they started to search for a new name.
The solution was in their lyrics: hate, grief, rage and wisdom...all those things you can't share with other people but just with your true friends. It was their exile. Their exile from everyone who tried to pull 'em down or to damage 'em.
So, gentle reader, welcome to our Exile.
