Jessie Hughes ventured into the Baltimore music scene in the Fall of 2003. Despite being without a website or a demo for over a year, she managed to play extensively in her hometown and tour the East Coast. As a solo-electric performer, she held her own sharing bills with acts that ranged from other singer/songwriters to heavy rock and punk bands.
After attracting the attention of producer Eric Penna from the Boston-based Lifted and Gifted Productions, Hughes recorded a full-band EP, featuring Penna and drummer Will Pratt, both of the experimental rock/punk band Ketman, as her rhythm section. With the release of the EP, entitled “the seventy-one demosâ€, in February 2005, Hughes busied herself with tours in the US and Canada. Following more than a year of constant traveling, she embarked on a self-proclaimed "full-on hibernation", dividing her time between her two home-bases in Baltimore and Chicago. In Spring 2007, Hughes was joined by her new drummer/collaborator Matt Foster to set up shop on top of a mountain to write and record.
