Shifting Midnight formed in early 2008 when lead singer Kevin Reagan moved to the Gulf Coast of Alabama and met guitarist Andy Bell as a coworker. The two almost immediately began to play acoustic sets at local venues and open mics, writing songs, and recording demos. After Kevin met drummer Matt Bishop through mutual friends in late 2008, Matt was asked to sit in for a practice session, and soon became the third member of the band. Soon thereafter, backup vocalist BreAnna Gray was added to the lineup to add a fantastic contrast to the band's vocals. The four are currently playing gigs in the Gulf Coast area and recording songs for their debut album, Shift Happens.
