The Make GHB History campaign seeks to combat the growing popularity of the harmful substance:
’ Gamma Hydroxybutyrate ’
(also known as ’GHB’)
We aim to slow down the widespread use of GHB within the electronic music/rave scene, as not only does it bring about negative publicity and media attention, but it also has a larger negative impact on:
- the people attending these events
- the event organizers
- first aid, staff and security
- and most importantly friends and family.
We believe it is necessary to curb the use of this drug before it becomes socially acceptable, As there are many new people being introduced to this drug each week, not fully aware of the risks involved.
We hope to educate people attending dance events and clubs, so that we can eventually lower the risks and impact of GHB by creating a general awareness, and promoting a safety conscious attitude.
We may not be able to stop people who choose to use this drug from doing so, but we can at least educate people enough so that they are aware of the risks, and hopefully deter new people from trying it.
We hope to achieve this through:
- Providing factual based information through our website, handing out pamphlets, and attending clubs and events.
- By targeting those who are not informed, the youth, and those un-aware about the substance and its affects, as to better equip them to deal with varying situations (Eg. Overdoses, peer-pressure, drink spiking etc...)
- By setting up a strong network between the clubs, events, paramedics and those who attend.
- By not using a 'fear' campaign, but simply providing facts and statistics, and first hand accounts from people who use/used the drug.
You yourself can play a role and have a big impact on those around you by becoming an ambassador, learning the facts about GHB, getting involved and spreading the word!
With the support from the St. Johns Ambulance services, the dance music industry, and people like yourselves we will send out a strong message that GHB abuse is neither supported nor tolerated. Questions, constructive criticism and suggestions are always welcome! We will do our best to answer all messages. But please be constructive if you have any arguments you wish to put forward.
Thankyou!
