what a long strange trip its been

About Me

My name is.. Shake Zula, the mic rulah, the old schoolah... You wanna trip, I'll bring it to ya... Aqua Teen fans know about that, all you other cats probably think i'm crazy, lol.

i am me. not sure where to really start.... so obviously i have no clue where i'll end, lol...
my favorite question to ask is WHY?
i have a pretty diverse background in school and career... started as an elementary ed major but got my BA in psychology from UNC Charlotte with double minor in education (k-12) and music. then went to WCU and studied clinical psyc; 12 credit hours short of my master's. I worked as juvenile counselor and behavior specialist in a state detention facility, then juvenile intake counselor for the NC juv. court system. after a while i decided to try yet another career. i went to school for automotive technology. got my associate of applied science with 4.0 gpa, was a technician at sears, mazda, and gm for a few years.
i became automotive instructor in the same program i graduated from. i taught for about 4 years. i now do freelance work writing textbooks as a curriculum developer and curriculum consultant. i've had to make quick abrupt changes myself to adapt to my changing life circumstances.
my experiences have made me passionate about some things. i don't understand why i can't live how i want as long as it doesn't affect anyone else's right to do the same... I believe anything, even releigion, may be used or abused. i believe war is futile. any war: war in iraq, war on drugs, war on terror.... it all breeds discrimination and hatred and no war will ever enhance the chance of our human species' survival. i love my country and i support our troops. i detest the political lying and greed that put them where they are.
You Are a Prophet Soul
You are a gentle soul, with good intentions toward everyone.
Selfless and kind, you have great faith in people.
Sometimes this faith can lead to disappoinment in the long run.
No matter what, you deal with everything in a calm and balanced way.
You are a good interpreter, very sensitive, intuitive, caring, and gentle.
Concerned about the world, you are good at predicting people's feelings.
A seeker of wisdom, you are a life long learner looking for purpose and meaning.
You are a great thinker and communicator, but not necessarily a doer.
***BUT*** if you intentionally take advantage of my kindness long enough you'll be "86'ed" ya dig? a couple women have already wrecked that free ride and i won't put myself out there like that again, no no***

okay update... okay whats new.. i moved. finally i know right. living in winston now. same apartment complex i lived at in 97-98 actually. its a pretty cool spot with the obligatory pool and (necessity) tennis court. neighborhood is cool and im close to everything. more work coming in soon which kicks ass. considering the detours and u-turns, i think i'm in a pretty good place. now if i could just not fuck it up i'd be set. but that's my addiction: self- destruction. i'm an expert at becoming an expert. build it, knock it down and build something else. which would be cool if i had endless time to keep reconstructing. time is the fine print in the marketing flyer it leaves in our thoughts. the atmosphere that suspends our lives within a sealed symbiotic package that starts with a capital letter and ends with a period. and it looks like i'm floating somewhere in the middle. but things are good. new place new faces new grocery store new gas station new space of my own to be what i can when i can. no inherent obligations or implied connections. performing for a new audience always commin up. never too old to be too old, but old enough to realize that. fuck it. it doesn't end as long as it keeps reacting, retracting, exacting. impacting.

My Interests

playing classical stuff or improv jazz on the trumpet, acting like i can play bass and keyboard. listening to all kinds of music, exploration inside my head and all around me, playing tennis and watching almost any sport. i had a BLAST at the BMW performance driving school a couple years ago. i like really deep dreams. making friends laugh, helping students learn. going to the shooting range (i'm not a crazy gun nut though).

i've been getting into a lot of deep philospohical stuff lately. mental focus, transcendental excercises. i love to think, and perhaps that's not always healthy... i still keep up with my graduate school study of clinical psychopharmacology and cognitive- behavior theory. i told ya, i'm a nerd.
i love to laugh. Family Guy is maybe the funniest television show i have ever seen...

i dig physical intimacy. not just sex but kissing, holding hands, being close, any touchy-feely stuff like that. and i love to give massages. you won't have a hard time getting a back-rub. or footie. or whatever you want luvvved on ;)

I'd like to meet:

looking for friends open to watch something grow into more... friendship is the foundation of intimate love and fear is its mortal enemy. It makes me so happy to put a smile on the face of someone i love. i don't expect perfection. she must be kind, reasonably attractive, and open-minded. its a plus if she luvvs the nice guy nerd thing...
patience and acceptance are very important. she must think my feelings and emotions are equally important as hers and won't tell me i'm a bad person for the way i feel or what i believe. i just desire to be loved for WHO I AM, not WHAT I GIVE.
forgiveness is essential. we all do stupid stuff sometimes and i think you have to give forgiveness if you expect to be forgiven. HONESTY IS NOT OPTIONAL. if you aren't adult enough to tell the truth then don't think will be able to string together a bunch of lies and then expect me to stay around when i prove your deception.
humor is a MUST. everyone is insane and if you don't laugh at the world you show your insanity to everyone else... humor truly is the construct that separates the sane from the emotionally defective...

you can find me occasionally on yahoo IM under the name standers420
while you're here, check out my super cool friends. there is some genuinely good energy in world and my friends below are examples. thank ya'll for yesterday and tomorrow. and ya know, tomorrow's lookin better n better every day :)

Music:

Pink Floyd is the greatest band in the electronic era. a perfect blend of musical talent, lyrical content, and wonderful electronic music gadgetry. Dead, Phish, citizen cope, jack johnson, Cake, jam bands, NEIL DIAMOND (yes its true), live jazz, live symphony (dark stuff like Holst, Mahler, etc... Beethoven is my overall fav composer).... Yes, Rush, anything progressive. I also like some rap and country music, just not the crap the play on the radio. i like funkadelic stuff, anything from p-funk to chuck mangione. sublime is awesome. (and i know, and i know because of krs-1) and of course we'll also give much props to Jerry and John. where would we be without those guys? Take the quiz:
Which Far out 60's-70's band are you?

Pink Floyd
You are PINK FLOYD! This means your deep yet misunderstood...and the hard core drugs don't help either!"

Movies:

Any Darren Aranovsky (sp?) films like Pi, Requiem for a dream.... any Kubrick films like Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, 2001. I like stuff you have to think about. but then again I like funny stuff too. just about anything john cusack has been in is pretty cool, like Better Off Dead, Singles, that kinda stuff. memento is an awesome film. office space. tron was cool back in the day and it still rocks. Fahrenheit 9/11 was pretty good, so was Why We Fight. OOH i forgot american psycho, memento, the list goes on..... ya know i just realized i put memento in here twice but i'm gonna leave it cos it fits the film. "you see, i have this condition..."

Television:

family guy, american dad, aqua teen hunger force, the simpsons, House, the discovery channel, the history channel. i also like CSI, the office, the daily show, the colbert report, sarah silverman, UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE!!! kids in the hall. i've been known to become addicted to tv's soothing blue glow :)

Books:

The Giving Tree or any Shel Silverstein, any Dr. Seuss. Yes, I am 32. I love Jack Kerouac. Also recently, the book "imagine" that is a film documentary by the same name. Wayne Dyer stuff is really good too.

Heroes:

Jesus Christ (although i'm not a snooty fundamentalist i do have my beliefs.) and John Lennon. i think jimmy carter is the most honorable leader we've had in my lifetime. carter/hillary in '08! its time to give peace a chance. "a working class hero is somethin to be..." and my parents and grandparents. just be a good parent to be a hero. "all you need is love, love, love is all you need..."
