THUNDERSTORM
by Albert L. Horney, Sr.
As I lay in my bed trying to sleep,
I heard the sound of distant thunder.
My mind lost count of the number of sheep,
And my tired brain began to wander.
A flash of light illuminated my room,
Startling me to sit up with a jump,
As the thunder rolled in with a boom,
And the wind hit my window with a bump.
I pulled the covers over my head
Whispering a prayer to my Lord above.
Another clap of thunder shook my bed
As I prayed for all the people I love.
Then the rain came in torrents with the wind.
I closed my eyes without fright or sorrow,
Waiting for sleep and sweet dreams to begin
So I would be ready for tomorrow.

Revelation 1:1-3
Prologue
"(1) The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, (2) who testifies to everything he saw -- that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. (3) Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever. Amen.
-- Matthew 6:9-13 - KJV
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Exodus 20:1-17
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor they maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor they stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
5. Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet they neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.
Wings of Prayer
When you're feeling low and lonely
And no one seems to care,
Reach out to God who loves you
And unfold your wings of prayer.
Rise above the daily heartaches
So common to us all.
Just spread your wings and fly away
Before the teardrops fall.
Don't let trials and temptations
Like anchors weigh you down.
Reach out to God . . . He loves you
And will not let you drown.
You can rise above your problems;
You can soar most anywhere.
Just put your faith into action
And unfold your wings of prayer!
Faith, Hope, Love
God, our Father, I believe in You with my whole heart. You are the infinite source of all life, all love, all goodness, all truth. You loved us so much as to give us Your only Son to save us and gather us together as Your people, and to live in us by Your spirit. All that I am, all that I have, all that I do, is Your gift. You are the only source of my life, my love, my strength. Without You, I can do nothing and I wish to do nothing outside of Your love. I give my whole self back to You, in total dependence on Your gifts. I place all my trust in You and I am confident that You will bring me to Yourself for all eternity. I place myself entirely in Your hands. I thank You, I praise You for Your glory, I adore You as my God. Keep me in Your love and never let me be separated from You. Amen
Father, We Thank Thee
For flowers that bloom about our feet,
Father, we thank Thee;
For tender grass so fresh and sweet,
Father, we thank Thee;
For the song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.
For this new morning with its light,
Father, we thank Thee;
For rest and shelter of the night,
Father, we thank Thee;
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.
"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
