About Me

Puppet came about around 1997 as a means to an end. Jonathan & Heath had been doing a band called Ritual from 1992 to 1996 but problems with their lead singer had left the band unable to reasonably function. By the bands end Jonathan was also going through alot of family problems & the band was only adding to his stress. So in 1996 Jon finally left the band that he had helped to create. Breaking away from Ritual gave Jon an opportunity to get his life focused as well as pursue some different musical avenues that he was unable to do in Ritual. To avoid having the problems with a lead singer again, Jon decided to sing all the material himself as well as write everything. The project would be born out of tribulation, seperation & experimentation. Everything Jon would be doing from this point on would be totally different than what he had ever done before. Collaberation with old friend & original Ritual bass player Chris Hester began but was short lived. Later, Jon paired up with friend Joey Crawford who ironically started in music with Bobby Burns in the early phases of what became Primer 55 (now fronted by IGM's own Heath Joyce). Many of Joeys ideas paralleled Jons & so the musical pairing proved quite profitable. Mid way through the bands progress, Heath Joyce came on board as the lead guitarist, finally bringing what was left of Ritual to its end. The Puppet project only lasted for a year or two before Jon & Heath decided to write exclusivly together again (forming IGM). By this time Heath had begun inventing his own material which he dubbed "Ghetto Metal". Jon had his experimental industrial project called "Puppet" of course & they both had all their old Ritual material. Using all three of these projects as one they spawned IGM. IGM is the culmination of many years of work but Puppet will always stand alone as its own entity. It may be the closest we will ever get to seeing Jon at his most vunerable & at his most honest for better or worse. It was a time when he didn't really think about what he was doing musically he just did whatever came out. Writing more about what he felt than what he thought. It was a place in time that can never be replaced. It served as medicine for Jon as well as a huge learing experience as the first project for Jon do all the singing, producing, engineering, & a majority of all the writing. Hope you enjoy this site & seeing one more side to the history of how IGM came to be.
