About Me

Hi, My name is Victor Hawkins-Sulfa and to be honest I've really only just begun to accept this season I am in and accept myself for who i am because of it. Music. this is what I'm about, making real music and enjoying the company of those who appreciate it and those who share the same dream/vision. Music, my vessel.
I guess this is the part where I tell you about how hard my life has been and what influences me to write the way I do and sing the way I do. To be honest my views, opinions and perceptions are always changing who I once drew influence from may not be the same as who I am influenced by now. But i will say this, My love for music was nurtured from a young age. My parents loved Old Funk and Soul, My Great grandmother - Opera, My Grand mother-Jazz and then there was the radio and Tv whilst growing up, the bands my friends and relatives were in or being of Multicultural blood and pulling resources of music and arts from every piece of my being.
Who I am is defined by my experiences, shortcomings, flaws, victories and beliefs. It is the response you give to each of these that defines and refines the character built within you. So I learnt to play the piano at a young age and started seriously singing when I was 16 at the time I was influenced heavily by Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight, Terrence Trent D'arby and Jackie Wilson. As I got older my influences increased more from Marvin Gaye to Maxwell to India Arie. I can not name any one artist who i have solely crafted my style/sound around.
Now at 20 years old I have acquired a desire to find my own definitive sound so that when others hear me they say "That's Victor" no longer "he sounds like..." or "he reminds me of..." but simply "That's Victor". To reach people through to the core of where I'm at, redeeming the music system back to where music is appreciated as an art not as a money-making machine (although money would be nice). To influence and impact people by expressing values in my songs, not necessarily political or life changing, but substantial and full of depth. To distribute my music on a global scale and one day be at the Grammy's nominated for an award. To stand un-wavered for what I believe in. For the gift that the creator gave me. Music the gift I share with you.
So as I am getting to know myself, I hope you will endeavor to know me as well, to support me in what I'm doing, remember I'm still learning but then again you never stop so Grow with me y'all 08's going to be a great year. __________________________________________________________
