Sounds Like: The Central ethos to the Antidote Sound revolves around the strict use of samples only, the focus being on funk drum breaks, filmscape atmospheres and thought provoking dialogue.
Antidote grew up in Brixton, South London and began his interest in music at a young age being exposed to Blues, Reggae and Jazz in his home. In the late 80's his musical taste turned towards US Hip Hop and he regulary tuned into radio shows to listen to artists like Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, NWA and Ultramagnetic MC's amongst others. Although aware of the Acid House / techno scene it wasn't until 1989 when he was played the mighty track, LFO, that he was drawn into the electronic side of music, immediately going out to the record shop to but a copy of the 12" for himself. Antidote started tuning in every week to the Kiss FM radio shows hosted by Colin Favour and Colin Dale who played a mixture of 4/4 and breakbeat tunes and during the early 90's he became an avid listener of pirate stations like Pulse 90.6, Destiny 99.3, Weekend Rush 92.3 and Eruption 101.3 not to mention a regular visitor to Black Market Records and Section 5 often bunking off from school to check out what was new on the racks and grabbing flyers to plaster all over his bedroom wall...
Antidote was gripped by the hardcore sound that dominated the London Underground music scene. Hearing tracks using break samples from 60's & 70's funk and soul fed what was now appearing to become a life-long passion. Antidote's first production experiments occurred with the use of what available hi-fi's were laying around, a stack of TDK90's, a pair of scissors, nail varnish, and alot of patience. Despite not having the money to afford studio equipment, the results of these lo-fi dub creations was enough to convince him that music production was the right path for him.
In 1996, Antidote met up with Daniel Brookes and became good friends. Daniel introduced him to the world of more serious production methods. He showed him the methods of producing music using an Akai sampler and Cubase 3.1 on an Atari ST. Inspired by the works of Source Direct, Paradox, Photek, Technical Itch and Dom & Roland, they spent many sessions writing music together, producing heavy drum-break orientated D&B.
Antidote continues to produce to this day and performs live utilizing the Ableton Live program.
