About Me
Welcome to my Myspace..
Who am I?
I am Liquid Ocelot, or Shalashaska.
I specialise in military gunplay and interrogation. I am an ex-Russian Spetsnaz soldier who served during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It was during this time that I became infamous amongst the mujahadeen as a sadist for which i was christened as Shalashaska (a Russian slang word for "prison").
I am described as being obsessed with guns, cowboy films and Spaghetti Westerns. This is reflected in my choice of dress as well as my codename and the weapons i use - I am armed with two Colt Single Action Army revolvers, which I wield with almost superhuman skill, being both a master of ricochet and fancy gun-twirling techniques; by the time of Metal Gear Solid 2, i seemed to have attained the uncanny ability to draw my weapon and shoot any target in the heart in a split second. I also use a technique known as 'fanning', in which one hand holds the revolver and the other hits the revolver hammer repeatedly, allowing for rapid fire. I was inspired to use revolvers after my first meeting with Big Boss when we fought each other. Big Boss, who was under codename "Naked Snake", watched me wield a Makarov and said my technique would be better suited for a revolver. The next time we met, I had an engraved version of the Colt Single Action Army. During Shadow Moses, after Snake confronted Vulcan Raven in a battletank, Raven called me General Ivan (likely a simple ethnic slur towards my Russian affiliation).
In 1964 Chronologically, I first appeared in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in my younger years (age 20). I was part of GRU and was a major in Spetsnaz's Ocelot unit, although in reality i was a double agent working for the CIA, and a former NSA codebreaker under the code name ADAM; ultimately, i answered to "The Patriots". I am the son of two members of the legendary Cobra Unit, The Boss and The Sorrow, born after my mother was shot during the invasion of Normandy, June 6th, 1944. Although it is hinted at the end, a secret phone conversation during the course of the game layed out my whole lineage. Even if it had not been revealed, there is a strong resemblence between me and my parents which is almost unmistakeable.
At the end of their confrontation on the WIG aircraft at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3, Naked Snake told me that his real name was John (a reference to the everyman name of 'John Doe' with which he introduces himself to Para-Medic. Other characters such as The Boss refer to Naked Snake as Jack). I told Snake that my real name was Adamska, although it is impossible to know if I was telling the truth, as ADAMska might simply be a pun of my for my CIA codename (ADAM). Who knows?
Many years later, in Metal Gear Solid (age 60-not-yet-61) I was a member of High-Tech Special Forces Unit FOX-HOUND, an elite special forces group which at that time is composed of former mercenaries. During FOX-HOUND's attempted "revolution" using a new nuclear weapons system, I lost my right arm below the elbow to Gray Fox. Afterwards it is revealed that I had been secretly working for the then-President of the United States, Solidus Snake. I then received a partial arm transplant performed in Lyon, France. The operation is paid for by Solidus Snake, and the arm belongs to Liquid Snake, who died of FOXDIE in Metal Gear Solid.
I resurfaced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (age 63 at Tanker, 64-not-yet-65 at Big Shell), stealing a sophisticated "Metal Gear hunter" system developed by the US Marines while claiming to be "taking it back" to its rightful owners. At this point Liquid took over my mind and body via the arm. I was seen using injections of some sort to suppress the manifestations. However, the true nature of the manifestations is made further unclear as it is implied in a conversation with Solidus that it only occurs when Solid Snake is near.
During the events of MGS2, I aided Solidus Snake in fighting the mysterious Patriots, a group Solidus believes is running a simulation intended to prove that, given the right circumstances, any soldier can become as skilled as the legendary Solid Snake. Once again, however, I double-crossed my comrades, revealing that i was working with the Patriots. The sinister group has stage-managed the events of Solidus' action with precision; my final role was to finish off the remaining "evidence", namely Solidus, Solid Snake, Raiden, and Fortune. However, Liquid took over my body again, and stole Metal Gear RAY with the intention of using it to destroy the Patriots. But as it may turn out, his effort will be in vain as even my knowledge of their location is quite possibly false.
Many things are very vague about me. And dispite my creation of a Myspace, I intend to keep it that way.
What gun do I use?
I am equipt with a Colt Single Action Army. Also known as the Colt Peacemaker or Single Action Army, the Colt Single Action Army handgun is a single action revolver holding 6 rounds of ammunition, that was designed for the US cavalry by Colt's Manufacturing Company and adopted in 1873, and it was perhaps the most prolific pistol in the wild west.
More about the Colt Single Action Army:
Operation
The term "single action" refers to the behavior of the trigger. Its hammer must be cocked manually before each shot, and the trigger performs only a single action, releasing the hammer. Most modern revolvers are "double action," as pulling the trigger will both cock and release the hammer.
Like many other contemporaneous revolvers, the cylinder of the Single Action Army can hold 6 rounds. However, because there is no mechanism which prevents a round from discharging a loaded chamber if the hammer is struck forcibly, most prudent users will only load "five beans in the wheel." Although many modern reproductions, such as those made by Beretta, utilize a transfer-bar safety which prevents such an accidental discharge, many people still choose to load only 5 cartridges for the sake of historical accuracy. In the popular sport of cowboy action shooting, even if one has a modern revolver, like the Ruger Vaquero, with the transfer bar safety (in which it is perfectly safe to load and carry six in the cylinder), they are only allowed to load five and keep the hammer on an empty chamber.
Loading
The common loading method is to load 1, miss 1, then load the rest. This causes the empty chamber to be under the hammer. When the hammer is cocked, it will rotate the chamber to one with a round inside. Furthermore, as the swing-out chamber had yet to be invented, Colt Peacemakers are loaded by opening a loading gate on the right side of the gun, behind the cylinder. Each round is loaded individually as the user turns the cylinder and ejects the casing with the built-in ejection rod attached below the barrel. Many cowboys, lawmen, and even cavalry soldiers prefered the Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver chambered for 45 S&W for its speed in reloading and for the ease with which it could be reloaded while mounted. However, because the Colt's cartridge was more powerful, and because the Colt revolver tended to be a more sturdy gun because of its solid frame (the Schofield was a tip-up, or hinged frame, revolver), the Colt was the final choice for the U.S. Army and, therefore, for any peace officer or civilian who could afford one.
Legacy
The Single Action Army is still being manufactured today, although genuine Peacemakers back from the wild west are obviously rare and highly regarded as collectors items. The gun is perhaps most widely associated with the wild west and spaghetti westerns, although many films and cultural shows still use this.
All original, good condition first generation Single Action Armys, those produced between 1873 and 1941, are among the most valuable to the collector. Especially valuable, often going for well over $10,000, are the OWA and the Nettleton Single Action Army Colts.
The OWA Colt refers to the earliest issued Single Action Army guns which were inspected by Orville W. Ainsworth. Ainsworth was the ordinance sub-inspector at the Colt factory for the first 13 months (Oct. 1873 to Nov. 1874) of the Single Action Army's production. It was Ainsworth who inspected the Colts used by Col. G.A. Custer's 7th Cavalry at the Little Bighorn.
Henry Nettleton was the ordinance inspector in 1878 at the Springfield Armory. Second only to the OWA Colts, Nettleton Colts are prized by serious collectors. Both the Nettleton and OWA Colts have the cartouche (OWA or HN) on the left side of the wood grip.
Another historical military SAA revolver is the Artillery Model. It was issued to the rear-echelon troops, artillerymen, and such during the Spanish-American war period. Following the Indian wars, in 1895, the cavalry SAAs had fallen into disrepair and had been sent back to the Colt factory or Springfield Armory to be refurbished, fit with a shorter barrel, (from a 7 1/2 in (191 mm) to a 5 1/2 in (140 mm) barrel) and re-issued. The standard military revolver at the time was the Colt double action New Army revolver chambered in 38 Colt. Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders charged up San Juan hill wielding the Artillery Model. Artillery models can usually be identified by the original inspector's cartouche (such as the OWA or HN) on the left side of the grips and the cartouche of Rinaldo A. Carr (RAC), the inspector who inspected the refurbished guns, on the right side.
The Single Action Army has been copied by numerous makers both in America and in Europe. The two major makers of Colt replicas are Aldo Uberti in Italy, which is a property of Beretta, and United States Firearms Mfg. Co. in Hartford Connecticut. Both companies make superb replicas that are much more affordable than the real Colt.
What is a revolver?
A revolver is a multishot firearm, usually a handgun, in which the rounds are held in a revolving cylinder that rotates to fire them through a single barrel.Revolver-type weapons are part of the long development of making better multishot weapons. They were partly an attempt to improve on pepper-box type weapons, which used a revolving cylinder with one set of firing mechanisms, but had multiple barrels as well. Firing through a single barrel saved the expense and weight of having the multiple barrels of the Pepper-box. Revolvers have remained popular to the present day in many areas, although they have largely been supplanted by semi-automatic magazine-fed pistols such as the Colt 1911, especially in circumstances where reload time and higher bullet capacity is important.
A revolver works by having several firing chambers arranged in a circle in a cylindrical block that are brought into alignment with the firing mechanism and barrel one at a time. A single action revolver requires the hammer to be pulled back by hand before each shot. In a double action revolver, the trigger pull can pull back the hammer as well as release it.
What is FOXHOUND?
Foxhound is a High-Tech Special Forces Unit FOX-HOUND (or FOXHOUND), specializing in solo covert infiltration missions, founded by Big Boss during the Cold War.
In order to cope with local revolutions, regional complications, and global terrorist activities, a special operations unit called FOXHOUND was founded in 1971, as a replacement for the FOX unit formerly led by Major Zero. Their agents are trained to infiltrate and carry-out top-secret operations within "unauthorized" combat zones which are too politically-sensitive to intervene in through conventional means. The existence of FOX-HOUND became known worldwide after the "Outer Heaven Crisis" at Garzburg in 1995, and once again during the "Zanzibar Land Riots" in 1999. They were able to make good use of high-tech surveillance and combat equipment in their covert operations, having a resounding impact on contemporary military strategy and training, resulting in a slew of other special forces units being created in their image (such as Dead Cell) throughout the world. In 2005, the unit was disbanded after their involvement in the "Shadow Moses Island" takeover, which also revealed their experiments with gene therapy. Since then several tales of their members (most notably Solid Snake) have surfaced to the public, earning the unit the title of the "Phantom Ninja Squad".
All members of FOX-HOUND have mastered various paratrooper techniques, including low and high altitude diving skills, and are thoroughly acquainted with silent invasion techniques from under and over water. Moreover, they have an incredible amount of knowledge concerning wilderness survival techniques for both forest, jungle, desert, and mountainous areas; are well trained in shadow and tailing techniques, pyrotechnic and munitions handling, radio and satellite communications, the seizing and reusing of enemy weapons and items, the electronic collection information and surveillance, various martial arts, emergency medical operations, world linguistics, and various other unreleased special skills.
Due to the rigorous demands, both mental and physical, placed upon members of FOX-HOUND, members are never chosen as civilians, but are drafted instead from a myriad of armed forces recruits and self-nominees from various special forces.
