Occult Decibel was started in October of 2006 by Naveen, a passionate musician who was looking to explore a career in music and sound engineering. Occult Decibel had humble beginnings, with just two members at first - Naveen on guitars and vocals, and Umanath (a fellow metal-head) on Lead Guitars. OD aimed at composing originals, rather than thriving on an overdose of covers. While still looking for a drummer, the band came up with Cluster of Madness and The Zephyr Attack, both progressive thrash-metal based compositions. By the end of the year, OD found Drummer Ashwin Shetty and Bass guitarist Charlie. Charlie was a friend of Naveen and had played with him in earlier bands as well.  January of 2007 saw the band move in to top gear with hard core jams - and soon Cluster Of Madness and Zephyr Attack were completed. It seemed like the band had finally begun to stabilize; which is why it came as a rude shock to the members when Umanath quit the band - for the strangest of reasons.  The band then played 3-piece for quite some time after that. A couple of gigs later, the band stumbled upon a lead guitarist, who they would call Jesus(real name – Ashwin Bhatia). Jesus was the ex-Guitarist and vocalist of the band Theorized. He was soon inducted into the band, and it was with him that the band performed at 'Freedom Jam'. Unfortunately, following that show OD faced yet another road-block - this time, Charlie quit, in order to focus on his education.  But the band refused to accept defeat. A little more scouting led them to Ashish, the ex-bassist of Radio Active Sheep and Bad Karma. Influenced by The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal(NWOBHM) and British punk/alternative genre, he brought his own unique style and expertise to the band. Ashish gelled in perfectly and shortly played his first gig with OD. One of OD’s best compositions titled 'System', was composed with him. Jesus, however seemed to be losing focus and his relations with the band strained. In a few months he left Bangalore for a career in aviation.  At this point, the band had gathered a small crowd of dedicated fans - one of them being Arunabh, a friend of Ashish. Arunabh was heavily influenced by the new wave of American metal, and turned out to be an amazing guitarist. A crazy combination of a thrash guitarist and a punk bass player was something that OD always wanted to experiment with. System and Cluster of Madness were improved with this new line up - and the band's 'personality' soon started to take shape.  A few gigs with their new members gave OD fresh confidence. But just as they were warming up, the band's hard hitting butcher Ashwin had to retire from his drums to pursue his dream of a career in film-making. What followed were months of auditions with other drummers ; that was when the band finally zeroed in on drummer Kishore. An extremely tight drummer, the band was bowled over by his talent. A couple of great jams with Kishore ensued- but the band was forced to take a break as Kishore and Arunabh were appearing for their board exams in March 09.Occult Decibel at the moment, is recording a Demo Cd which they hope to complete by April 09.  The current line up of the band comprises : Naveen – Guitars and Vocals Ashish – Bass Arunabh – Guitars Kishore – Drums and Percussion
