About Me

This article appeared in Frost Illustrated under Four local must have CDs : By Strings: ____________________________________________________________ “I’ve known Jesse West for years. He used to hang out in my living room when he was still in high school and, even then, he was really different. Even then, as a kid, he had ideas—different ideas— about music. Fast forward a few years and a lot of people were stunned when this seeming “hippie” kid joined the U.S. Navy and started playing bass among some of the best the country has to offer. (Military bands ain’t know joke!) Then, I get this package with a CD of four smoking jazz tunes from a West Coast quintet led by, you guessed it, Jesse West. First of all the playing is so good it’s frightening, thanks to West on bass, Greg Garcia on drums, Ed Kornhauser ..boards, Gilbert Castellanos on trumpet and Peter Sprague on guitar. And, the compositions are so pretty they’ll bring tears to your eyes. Oh, did I mention, Jesse wrote all of them? Think Freddie Hubbard meets Charles Fambrough. Aww, what the heck, just think Jesse West and a talented group of pals!" ____________________________________________________________ ___ For the full article, visit: http://www.frostillustrated.com/full.php?sid=5422
