I'm first and foremost a bass player, I love playing piano but will never a prodigy, and art keeps me sane. Growing up I was blessed with older brothers and a sister who were music freaks. My sis would have Abba blazing in her place and my bro Black Sabbath. I was bombarded by the BeeGees, Supertramp, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Kiss, The Monks, Cheap Trick, every fricken Disco album cut in '79, and a million others in between. As a kid I listened with and an analytical ear and appreciated a well written song. My teenage years saw a turn to hard rock and a narrowing of my musical perspective. Luckily there were a tonne of great bands in that genera at the time. I played the hell outta albums like "Powerslave by Iron Maiden", "Master of Puppets by Metallica", "The Real Thing by Faith No More" and "Appetite for Destruction by GNR". All the hours paid off and I toured for a while. Touring full time was not for me and I found myself want to further my education, so I moved back to my home town and applied for college.
University corrupted me musically, and I found myself listening to stuff from Tragically Hip, Third Eye Blind, I Mother Earth, Our Lady Peace, Mathew Good Band, and the techno dance groups like Depesche Mode, Eraser, Technotronic, Delerium and Enigma. The bands I was playing in and writing with were also all over the map, I even played a country gig (which was actually pretty sweet). The last seven years have seen some cool gigs come and go, and I've had the opportunity to play with some very talented people. I consider myself a student of music and try to keep an open mind (although I just cant do the gangsta rap, such a contrived genera). I love to learn and play as many different forms of music as I can, but when it all boils down to it I'm a sucker for a great pop song.
Here's some of the music I've been working on for the past year. Its all over the map and reflects my moods. I've been experimenting with recording and sampling of which I think some of it works and some not so much. I'm always working on something new, maybe next I'll write some with vocals, but I'm really into the instrumentals (cant get Zero 7 outta my mp3 player) right now.
