Shelby Jade McLemore began using poetry as an outlet over 15 years ago, taking every opportunity to freestyle in class with friends. Though recognized in 1992 for her role in the winning entry of a city wide talent contest (that allowed everyone in her school to take home a new pair of K-Swiss) it was still all fun and games. She never imagined it would sprout into something her peers would enjoy and encourage. Though often heralded as 'wise beyond her years', Shelby offers nothing but her ever-evolving perspective. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD (Eastsiiiiiiiiiide!), she enjoys writing about the experiences of growing up in a loving family that was determined to fight the plagues of inner city life. Her poetry fearlessly delves into the personal issues that are common to the human experience. Featured on "The Art of Conversation Vol 1", as well as E the Poet Emcee's "8 Million Stories" and "Black Supreme Emcee", she released her freshman project We All Fall Short... February 2008. She has forthcoming collaborations with such artists as Aquil Mizan, Carolyn Malachi and Chuck Da Madd Ox, and shared stages with Baltimore staples The 5th L and Salim and the Music Lovers. A member of RPS (Rebellious Poets Society) and the Baltimore Black Arts, Shelby was voted 2007's "Most Promising Newbie" at the Poetry for the People Awards. She looks forward to continued growth, and the reflection of that growth in her poetry.
