The band was started up in august 06' by former singer Guy Schwarz and bass-guitarist Ben Cohen (aka Ben-Belial).
Ben-Belial and Guy had an ambition, to create an Israeli Hard-Rock band with a "rough" atmosphere (which the rock world seemed to have forgotten at the time) that would exist in the sound, the lyrics, the compositions and in everything else the band dealt with. At that time they named the band "Diesel".
After a few weeks of writing, they realized the band needed more musicians (no one has ever really heard of a hard-rock band made up of only a bass-guitarist and a singer), so the qwest to find a drummer and guitarists began. Ben-Belial invited Erez Weiss to join the band. They had worked and played together in high-school, the vibes between the two had been better than good. Erez fitted in perfectly with the band's style and ambition.
They put an ad on the internet and after a few months of searching for proper guitarists, Koby Bar responded to the ad and was invited to join (3 or 4 guitarist had already come and gone. After Koby, Maor Edri joined and the band was complete.
From then on, the name "Diesel" was chaged to "Asphalt" (Seriously, "Diesel" is a stupid fu**ed up name).
Then, due to some personal and professional issues, Guy Schwarz left the band, and Asphalt found themselves without a lead singer and one of their pioneers.
To be honest, overcoming Guy's departure was hard, it took them time to to get back on their feet.
After a while, they realized they didn't need to search for a new singer, Maor had been there all along and he knew how to do the job very well all by himself. Maor took the place of lead singer and Ben-Belial took Maor's former place as backing singer.
In December 07', the band finished recording, edditing and distributing their debute single "Tmunat Mazav", which they produced in their own studio with the help of E&E Records, which has since become their recording label.
