About Me

Hey, Conas atá tú?! Is mise Orla, tá súil agam go mbaineann sibh sult as mo cheol! I hail from Co. na Mí, and work full-time with the Irish language and music promoting it both at home and abroad.I also manage the very talented Dublin based singer/songwriter, Fiach, who debut single 'You Dear' is now available for download on ITunes or to sample on www.myspace.com/fiachmusic. My work allows me to be involved with many of Irelands finest musical talents searching the country for bands and artists to perform 'as Gaeilge' on the Ceol albums! Check them out on myspace.com/snagceol, tá siad go hiontach! I released my debut album many moons ago entitled 'The Bluenote'. I love writing songs and enjoy the people and places in my life who inspire me to write them!I'm half way thru the recording of album number 2 at the moment and hope to get it finished this year!!Hope ya enjoy the tunes, please feel free to say Hello! Here's some stuff people wrote about me!!!!!""""" Orla is a vibrant artist steeped in Celtic Lore, whose material is born of personal feelings, respect for and understanding of the Irish tradition. This album possesses a strong sense of time and place, the subject matter ranging from her love for traditional music to love lost and a sense of physical and emotional displacement. She's been classed as a singer with the voice of an angel that challenges the allure and the guts of Sinead O' Connor. Her voice is so spiritually haunting that monks write her lyrics for her!Subtitled "new songs of the Celtic Spirit", this is a refreshing and highly listenable debut from a newly discovered young home-grown talent. With an instrumental backdrop combining orchestral as well as traditionally inspired melodies and textures, The Blue Note features 12 original songs with a strong theme of love, loss and separation. Clannad, Enya and Dolores Keane are all obvious influences but the real revelation here is Orla's voice, which is at time so light and airy it's almost translucent - the overall effect being one of reflective calm and serenity. An eminently accomplished debut. (Colm O' Hare, Hot Press)""Amazon.co.uk Review ""It would be easy to accuse Oliver Sweeney of nepotism for signing his daughter, Orla, to his own record label, but that would be to ignore the fact that she possesses a stunning voice. Operating very much in the Enya/Clannad vein, Orla's album did so well in Ireland that a wider release became inevitable. Ideal for airplay on Radio 2 and TV exposure on shows such as the National Lottery, Orla has an almost guaranteed audience for her soaring, melodic songs steeped in Celtic harps, Irish whistles and uilleann pipes. Wisely, she avoids over-playing the shimmery synths and whispery vocals that have become such a cliché for contemporary Irish singers, preferring to set her poignantly nostalgic songs in a more traditional acoustic sound, but using sound effects of waves, wind and seagulls to give an ambient feel to some tracks"". --Johnny BlackI edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
