About Me

Charles E. Tanksley --
[noun]:
A person of questionable sanity who starts their own cult
'How will you be defined in the dictionary?' at QuizGalaxy.comMy name is Charles, I live in a house in Norwalk which I rent with my brother, Matt, and another roomate, also a Matt(we call him G so as not to confuse them). C.E. Grist is my pen name. I wrote the first couple chapters of a novel a few years ago and got writers block, and then life sort of got in the way for a while. But I've finally gotten back to the project again. I enjoy reading and listening to music (see interests collumn for details). Most of my free time is spent reading, playing strategy computer games (I'm no good at the ones that require reflexes), or hanging out with friends. I'm a sucker for sunsets especially over the beach. I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic. I still enjoy some of the ideas of chivalry, just without the underlying chauvinism. For more insight see my blogs. Anything else you'd like to know just ask.

I'd like to meet:

I suppose a few new friends won't kill me, although that depends on what type of friends i meet here.... It would really be nice to find some old friends to... anybody out there from my old high school days who wants to get back in touch...

Music:

My roommate's Band...

My friends from Crossed Keys
Burn Away

I have a very diverse taste in music. I like some cookie monster metal like In Flames, As I Lay Dying, and Demon Hunter, but there has to be some melody in the lyrics and a good guitar riff. I also like more mellow music like Jewel, Michelle Tumes, and Loreena McKennitt. And much that lies in between like Evanesence, Lacuna Coil, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Tristania, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, and Savior Machine, and Tori Amos. I like some old Metallica, and really enjoyed the S&M Album. I grew up listening to 80's hard rock and hair metal, and still enjoy listening to Scorpions, Def Leppard, Guns & Roses, and Bon Jovi. I was also exposed to folk music as a youngster and developed a taste for the Kingston Trio, Simon & Garfunkle, even Peter, Paul, & Mary. I also have a taste for some of the clasical composers as well like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Sousa, Tchaikovsky, and others who's names I'm forgetting right now.

Movies:

The best way to get me to NOT see a movie is to tell me "It's a really GOOD movie". I do not like movies that are designed to mess with your emotions. I like movies that are designed to entertain, like action films and comedies. I have watched Princess Bride so much I almost have it memorized. I am a big fan of John Cusack in a comedy(ie One Crazy Summer, Better Off Dead, Gross Point Blank), but I don't like a couple of his newer films (Identity, Runaway Jury). Most of my guy friends laugh because I'm really into romantic comedies. Three to Tango, Serendipidy, Blast from the Past, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, and So I Married an Axe Muderer, are some of my all time favorite movies. I'm also a big fan of movies based the fantasy novels I read as a child, like Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. I was tricked into to seeing the first Harry Potter on video and was dragged to the second one while it was still in the theaters. I stood in line to see the third and fourth movies on opening day. That has a tendency to happen, I think I'm not going to like something and my friends persuade me to try it, and then... crud, I like it...

Television:

I've tried to kick the habit, but I still have a couple of addictions left; Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Iron Chef America, Good Eats, Joey (except they cancelled it.. snif..), and of course the Lakers and Dodgers.

Books:

I read a lot when I was younger, but havn't had enough time to keep up with it lately. I've read a lot of C.S. Lewis, his non-fiction as well as his Narnia series. I've also read the first twenty or so of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony, and the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I just recently tore through the first six of the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I also Just read the abridged Princess Bride, and it realy has some of the interuptions that are shown in the movie.

Heroes:

Yea Sure, I could really go for a good hero sandwich....
