About Me
I have been playing drumset since about the late 90's. My favorite music to play is rock and mostly I stick to radio friendly songs. I played in successful coverbands for the last ten years. 2004 and 2005 winner Veteran's National Arts Festival Gold medalist, Warnerve is the tail end of the 2005 solo, hope you enjoy. The full video of the solo is on my videos page with another video of me doing a solo. The other titles are some drum overlay parts I experimented with on a Simmons electronic kit that I used for a couple of weeks in late 2008. It was alot of fun to lay down and play over my other parts and hopefully you will enjoy listening to them.I play a Yamaha Oak Custom kit, (one of five kits I own, the others are one that I built myself which is a small maple club kit, which I stained a soft honey color, with a thumping 18 inch kick. The whole thing fits in two cases!
ON WHEELS!! Next is a Pearl Masters Custom, a DW pacific silver sparkle for practice, a Tama Rockstar also for practice spaces away from home.I have recently started using 2002 Paiste crashes that are working nicely for me. I use a double kick pedal by DW. My sticks are always Vater Fusion wood tip. I play traditional grip and am rudimentally trained. My favorite drummers are Steve Gadd, Dave Weckyl, Neil Peart, Gene Krupa, Vinnie Paul and Ginger Baker, but I don't try to sound like anyone but myself. There are some samples of my playing and I will be updating them as I find more time to record little bits. Feel free to comment on and discuss with me what you hear, likes and dislikes etc...
Currently I am working on some new drum ideas, which is slow work, since I want to try something totally out of my style for the heck of it. You will hear the results of my efforts soon. My professional gigging setlist includes about 750-800 coversongs, from the 1940's through current. I have spend the greatest deal of my study on only the songs that have hit number one at one time or another, but there are a few hundred that are lower in the charts and they are quite eclectic including, Swing, Be-bop, Funk, Disco, Rock-a-billy, Hardcore punk, Big-hair metal, Death-metal, Speed-metal, Country, Texas-shuffle, Rap, Old-school -rap, New-wave, Pop-punk, Classic-rock, Classic pop, Alternative rock, Grunge, and I have found that after dissecting so many tunes, learning new ones just gets easier, which is really interesting to me, because my first 50 were very difficult, but now I don't dread it, it takes me about 3 minutes to learn each song now, which is startling to me compared to my past experiences. That must have been one of my dues THEY are always saying ya gotta pay.I enjoy spending time with my family and I just adopted my step-son Nick, so he's officially my son now which feels great! Fishing, target shooting, and real-estate investing are all passions of mine. I have a very supportive family and choose wisely, those who I would have in my company. In person I am of a conservative opinion and do not suffer "It's all good" personalities, because no, "It isn't all good". I don't hesitate to share my views and have done so my entire life with no regrets. I dislike debate, because I already know where I stand on an issue, and I don't feel the need to make anyone understand it. I am conservative Christian, by religion Protestant, and owe all of my success to Jesus. My life is better than it has ever been, and I couldn't ask for a better lot. My stress is almost zero right now, and I am looking forward to every peaceful day!I give credit to my wife who is my best friend and the best woman on the planet bar-none!! Thank you Laurie for being so wonderful!
