Bi Beò means "to live life" and the music of the band certainly reflects that sentiment. There is a simple philosophy within the band to make people dance and with many songs in their performances in the high tempo they certainly achieve that. The real sound of Bi Beò is heard on stage as they launch themselves into their music without inhibitions and encouraging all who watch tp participate in the fun and music.
Since the launch of Bi Beò onto the music scene the band has gone from strength to strength and played in The Pan Celtic Festival in Donegal, The Irish Festival in Akraness, Iceland , Live at the Edge in Barra, Inverness, Skye and the Isle of Harris and the Uists. These venues and festivals have enabled the band to develop and test their style and sound to new audiences and as a result developed their own unique brand of gaelic Rock.
Bi Beò has now developed thier own brand of Gaelic music and found their own niche. The music on the new album due out in June 2009 is completley different to anything else on the market and very different from their first album. The new album "Ma Sgaoil" tracks the bands development over the past year and demonstrates the bands vision for their music.
Bi Beò are an original band from the Hebrides and playing their music is like no other sound from this area. The band are not afraid to try new things and experiment with gaelic vocals , the language and music in a bid to try and reach new audiences and to expand the appeal of the language through music. The music of Bi Beó provides all members of the band with new challenges, both musically and vocally; encouraging them at all times to strive and produce a pure and professional sound, while maintaining a certain rawness to the the music.
The songs are a reflection of island and Highland life from dancing to the beauty of love, nature , the elements , the harshness of isolation and abandonment. Many songs carry a messages of love and youthful exuberence and reflections of childhood memories of growing up in the Hebrides. The debut Album “Beo an Duil†which was launched in March 2008 features 10 brand new tracks which were written, composed and produced in Uist by James MacLetchie and Kevin De Las Casas and all the songs contain the traditional roots of gaelic music and culture. The album was recorded at the Media Hebrides Studios in North Uist.
Inside the album cover are all the lyrics in Gaelic and English enabling all listeners to learn the songs and to encourage learners of our language to see the words as they are written and be able to follow the tracks on the CD.
Bi Beò are now working on their second album which is totally different to their first as it will contain crowd favourites Alba gu Brath, Barra Rant , Suid a Ghraidh, the Sgath Sgitheaneach an Morag to name but a few. With more and more gigs coming in for the band it looks like there are busy times ahead for all the members in 2009. It is all positive and enjoyable and filled with the fun of life.
The band started off New year with a gig at a Guest list party at Langass Lodge, North Uist. This was a great night and to play on home turf to bring in the new year was pretty special. The night had it all, great food, friends, fireworks and wild music. It was a great start to 2009 and the band hopes to see you all around the country in 2009.
