I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

My name is Emily. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a proud Army wife and mother of two beautiful children and 3 fur babies. We are currently stationed at Fort Campbell. I am the Co-Leader for my hubs unit :)
My hubs and I have been supporting our Troops by sending care packages/letters overseas for over 4 years. I started sending packages in 2004.
When a local Soldier, SSG Matt Maupin, from my hometown was captured in Iraq I decided I really wanted to do something to help. There was a prayer vigil held in honor of SSG Maupin and his family. From that night on my life changed in a way I would have never expected. I have worked with www.4thetroops.net, www.smiles4troops.com , http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StarSupportMilitaryGroup and a few more. They have been wonderful friends and resources for me. I started off sending packages to 64 Soldiers. Soon my list grew to a couple hundred. Up until recently, I sent packages to 200-300+. Life and its many responsibilities have gotten very busy for me since I am a fulltime student, work part time and am actively involved in the FRG.
I was honored with a Community Service Award from The Drees Company in Northern, Ky in May 2004. I also did local television interviews, packing parties at local churches, a motorcylce ride to raise funds for care packages (I raised 1700 dollars!), speaking engagements and would also go to local schools and talk to young kids about writing letters and supporting our Troops.
In 2005 my hubs joined me in my efforts. In 2006 I was one of four people from Seymour Johnson AFB, NC given The President's Volunteer Service Award.
I have learned so much over the years. A few of the penpals my husband and I had have had turned out to be some of the best friends a person could ever ask for. I have brightened the days of so many men and women. There is nothing like the feeling you get from doing so much for so many others..it is the most gratifying thing in the world. After all, this is the least we can do for the Men and Women who work so hard to protect our Freedom.
I thought it would be so awesome and helpful if I shared some of the interesting and helpful things I have learned through the years. I have had some very good teachers!!
There are so many ways you can offer your support. Please look in my sites of interest, Resources and Ideas and Pen Pal Programs and Support Groups to find out more. There is also some very good PTSD information. PTSD awareness is so important!
I also write condolences for fallen Servicemembers. If you would be interested in participating please message me for more details
