Le Mission Expuisite
I want to pay homage to Beauty. Beauty created in the way the Greeks built their temples; striving to produce harmonious and perfect proportions thus giving form to the indescribable thing, which is the essence of beuty. A hairstyle is like architecture created on a moving element. It is the result of an exchange, a dialogue and the trust between a client and her hairdresser. The work is a synthesis of observation, of generosity and sometimes even of humility.
I am quite sure that my profession is one of the most fascinating ones, because we are creating on human beings, and we are giving the means of attaining beauty. As the result of my experience so far I beilieve very much in the psychological approach to hairdressing. Stars, models, and everyday ordinary women are all searching for their identity, their look, their personality. A good hairdresser should reassure them and help them in this pursuit. To do this they should have an eye for beauty and a well absorbed and perfected technical control, to enable them to carry out their creation and give free rein to their artistic talent.
Ours is the only profession where there is no ready made product to buy. We create and are judged on our creations continually. This creation is made in accordance with the structure of the face, their type of hair, and with the lifstyle of the client concerned; her image the way she sees herself and the way others see her. A hairstyle is something immediately visible and it conditions the volume of the face or upsets it's proportions. So client and hairdresser have to speak the same language. If hairdressing was a language in itself, it would have to be the language of beauty.
My greatest desire is to give confidence to each client. However, I would also like to make all hairdressers relize how fantastic their mission is, and how great the responsibility. To make them realize that through their shears they have to make something magical happen, that their technical ability alone, although indispensable, is not enough. They must learn the technique, assimilate it so well, that they can then forget it - in the way a pianist forgets his scales and lets his artistic expression take over his playing. We must act as interpreters for our clients, show them their true beauty which is within them and even go beyond the clients's dreams. The style itself is always a reflection of the needs and desires of a certain moment in time. A stylist should be able to pick up and interpret what the client expects of them, and then use their technique and sensitivity to make their dreams come true. In demonstrating to the client the technical aspects of the haircut, at the same time making clear the image and the dream which they have themselves, the client gains a greater understanding of their hairdresser and the reasons behind the choice of a particular style. Therefore she will have total confidence in them.
Anything which obeys the natural laws of harmony, proprotion, beaurty and volume and to which is added that tiny indefinable spark of personal character, will never be outdated. Beauty is not a question of fashion. Every woman has her own special beauty which her hairdresser must recognize and bring out. This is my philosophy.
