One Sided Man
Andrew Spicer is a singer/songwriter from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, who records and performs as a one-man-band, using samples, computer software and loud guitars. He is noted for his soprano vocals, over poppy guitar hooks, and of course the 'drum machine'.
One must not be quick to judge the stigma of a drum machine style, in this case; as you won't see a scrawny little man, with a drum strapped to his back, cymbals on the knees and a banjo in hand. Nor will you see a geeky, misfit, in a spacesuit, singing songs about; Saturn and Mars, to the beat of a MIDI sequencer. It's just rock and roll, but bending the rules a bit more, (which is what rock is all about,) trading in the full band, for a laptop computer.
In 2006, Andrew released, a small number of his first independently recorded and printed, EP; Four Rusted Strings, which was named such, due to the poor state of his old guitar at the time, churning out 4 classic tracks which were severely underrated.
In 2007, Andrew went at it again, releasing his first solo album; Flower Petals & Smokescreens, which this time, had a better sound, and attracted a bit more attention, with such songs as the poppy hopelessness of; Time, the anti-classis anthem; Saviour of the Erroneous Power, and the gritty/gentle ballad; Sleep.
