Horse Shows: This is to the sore butts and legs. To the smell of dirt and manure. To the raw hands and feet. To the early morning feeds and the sound of your horse excited to see you. To the long weekends without showers. To the ribbons, medals and trophies. To the chaps, cowboy boots, spurs, saddles and big belt buckles. This is for all the patience and trust of your horse. The accidents and screw ups. Everyone talking, yet only hearing your trainers voice from the siderails. The sound of the hooves on the ground and the bits in their mouths. The announcers and crowds. To the "horse show mom", last minute shoe shineing and hat steaming. Giving your horse a bath without time for your own. The layer of dirt and debris caked on your face and in your eyes, nose and ears. The burned faces after long shows in the summer. The chrome and leather of the saddles. The hours of packing and unpacking of the trailer for a 2 day horse show. The road trips. The wins and loses. The falls and jumps. To at the end of the day when you can just sit in the stall with your horse, fall asleep and know nothing bad will happen. To just enjoy being totally trusted and loved by something of such size and strength.
