I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

At the tender age of nine, she began to hear melodic tunes in her head. Escaping through musical fantasies helped to mold her imagination and vision of what she could become someday. After a teacher noticed that she possessed a rhythmic execution while reading and being the class clown, she was entered into the school talent show, and won first place. It was there, in 4th grade, were she was bit by the performance bug. In high school, she began writing and rearranging popular songs, still winning the grand prize. After her mother refused to let her attend a performing arts high school, she decided to gain her own experience by writing and performing hooks for local hip-hop groups at a local recording studio. Eventually she recorded a demo, and then moved to Los Angels to work on her vocal skills with Stephanie Spruill, an outstanding artist developer. While in Los Angeles, she began work shopping her material, hosting open mic poetry sets, and started an eclectic neo soul band entitled SCUNC. She was given permission to funk on by the Godfather of funk himself, George Clinton, while working as a background singer with Titus Fatso of The Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Another demo was in order, so it was recorded. In 2004, she returned to her birth city, New Orleans. She was now optimistic about her future as a performer and began to take flight as an emcee at The Old Opera House on Bourbon Street, a featured vocalist with The Batiste Brothers Band, and with Dwayne Doopsie, the prince of Zydeco. She also began to work with The Music Business Conference, as a performer, emcee, and as the seat coordinator for the event. Performing the New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage Festival and The French Quarter Festival, were a dream come true for her, she felt her time was approaching, then Hurricane Katrina displaced her in Chicago, where she resides today. She took some time off, but then could not go any longer without her musical therapy, so she began to put a band together. After several tries, she found a professional group of musicians who could execute her vision and accommodate her vocal style. Recently she and her band, Je na sais quoi, were the headliners for WVON’S Inaugural Party for President Obama in Chicago, She’s also been instructing Spoken Word Workshops for private schools, participating in fund raisers, and performing at a host of private parties and corporate events. Her debut cd will be released summer of 2009.
