What do we want? Do we want revenge or do we want fewer children harmed? It must be one or the other, as each have opposite effects. If you understood a little about the prevention of crime, in this case the prevention of sexual child abuse, you would understand that our society's desire for revenge is not making the world any safer for children. By sustaining a society in which we threaten and demonised Paedophiles and child sex offenders, in order to stop child abuse, we will achieve nothing but a state of paranoia. This will drive many of these people underground through fear and isolation. Then eventually, their unstable mind set, combined with a reluctance to seek support, will increase their potential to cause harm to children. If we put our moral repulsion aside and open our eyes, we can start protecting children. This can only be done by accepting that Paedophiles and Sex Offenders will always exist, and then taking steps to encourage them to seek support. It has made a significant difference in Canada, with their 'Circles of support'.
