..BIOGRAPHY
BLAMA D GENERALBlama D General is an extraordinarily rare combination of musical gifts wrapped in one powerful and explosive package. Blama D is the musical genius some people know as Lamone Strachan, and what is making him dangerously hot right now is his unrelenting ability to blaze a dance or a party with his haunting, hypnotic rapid-fire lyrics. And that is just the beginning of the creative credentials of Blama D General. He is also a much sought-after studio engineer and producer, having worked with some of the biggest names in the reggae music industry.
Blama’s scorching new single Sana Margarita (Truck Back Records/ Rude Boy Music Group) is currently tearing up club and dances, and building a strident momentum at radio. The song is a tribute to a popular new drink on the market and to the party people who love the beverage. But Blama’s musical journey began years ago at the Spanish Town Hospital where he was born.
As it happened, his father, Junior Strachan, was heavily involved in the music industry in Jamaica. His dad played instruments, was a promoter and he also ran a record store in the Cross Roads area of Kingston, Jamaica. Blama’s uncle too, Patrick Strachan is also involved in the music business and he is the president of Rude Boy Music Group in New York, so it was a natural fit for Blama to follow in the footsteps of his elders. As soon as Blama was old enough to move his fingers, his dad was teaching him to play the piano. Lessons in guitar, flute and trombone were to follow. They migrated to Bronx, New York at an early age but that in no way dissipated the son’s passion for music as Blama spent nearly all his summers in Jamaica anyway, embracing the vibrations of reggae music.
Over the years, one of Blama’s challenges in the industry has been reconciling his drive for wanting to be the best producer/ engineer possible and his enduring natural instincts to be an artist. Happily, he has succeeded in both arenas. On the artistic tip, he has been working the stage with a microphone since he was sixteen years old to the enthusiastic approval of screaming, adoring fans. And because Blama was raised in both Jamaica and the United States, his rapping style reflects the reality of both places. He sometimes raps Yankee style and can flip in a minute to Jamaican-style dance hall dee-jaying. He has also had the opportunity to do performance dates with dancehall artist Kulcha Don and that enabled him to open for Sean Paul at Electric Factory in Philadelphia. He has also performed at Irie Jamboree in New York City with Kulcha as well as at various other venues in the Northeast.
In the area of production/ engineering, Blama has already produced all the tracks on a compilation album, Get With It/ Volume 2 that was released on VP Records. And in the studios, he has engineered for Bounty Killa (who partly gave him the Blama name at the start of a studio session as his legal name was too long), Red Rat, Shabba, Cobra, Tonto Metro & Devonte, Bruck Up, Tanya Stephenson and others.
With his new single buzzing, Blama is currently working on completing a new album for Truck Records. “I make music from the heart, and in these difficult times, people really need to de-stress, so at present, my music is about people relaxing, partying and having a good time despite the economic hardshipsâ€, Blama commented.
Blama D General certainly plans to continue what he knows best, and what he’s been doing all his life- making excellent reggae music. His aim for the immediate future is to earn the respect and the benefits that come with being a hard-working artist and producer, and to bring untold joy to new fans in the reggae Diaspora through his music.DR.. ..I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!
