Ainars Pupols&pblues

Ainar Pūpols & π-BLUESHe started to play guitar at his 14,and straight ahead made his first song. Ainars did not know that he was hooked on blues.(Later in magazin for young comunists ‘’Rovestnik’’ he found his first blues notes, lyrics and very short history of Blues) Year 1975. Deep soviet presure everywere , government controling every word what You say from the stage,on radio and tv...no information about western music,only bad quality tapes traveling from friend to friend with songs of The Beatles, Roling Stones,Deep Purple ... And Ainar made his first band.They played homemade eletric guitars thrue oldstile radios ,first microfone was megafon.But it was exciting.Band named „The Last Moment‘’ played only some concerts ,some dancing parties ,than one off members were taken in to Soviet Army and band broke up. New bluesman made another band and won soviet time talant contest. School principal did not let the boys to travel around and play concerts. Ainar met the local band lieder Martin Braun (now one of the famous Latvian composers) ,man who gived the first and only blues lesson in Ainars life .Since 1979 Blues and Ainar were going together. At 80ies Ainar Pupols made several rock bands,but none of them got famous . Since Latvia got freedom from soviets, bluesman started to tour around the Europa . Whiskey Band and The Cucumbers played heavy blues-rock ,and allmoust all songs have been writen by Ainar. But again, bands did not releas any album. Ainars still have got records of those days. In 1998 Bluesman colected his good friends and made a studio album ’’Runaway Wolf’’ ,but again none of record companys in Latvia wanted to releas blues album. In 2002 Ainars and friends made studio album „Grass street blues” and „Copenhagen nights” ,peformed a lot in Latvian radios ,but never been released. From 1998 Ainars traveled a lot and played concerts around Europa .No big places moustly clubs, cafe’s and bars. The Best places were Ainar allways would like to play again is’’ Mojo’’ - bluesbar in hearth of Copenhagen.Of course he wount forget playing in festival ‘Liepajas Dzintars’ together with symphonical orchestra. In 2004 Ainars met doublebass player Aivar Meijer and drummer Guntar Brech ,now they are members of Ainar Pupols & π-BLUES. In 2006 as band member joined Janis Lemezis, Ole Jonas Storli, Zigurds Latuškēvics. In 2007 the first ever made original latvian blues album „Blues in my Pocket’’ were released by Baltic Records Group. English version of the record is still waiting for releas.
