Yamin Chowdhury (Shagor) is an accomplished tabla player established in the uk. Being british born, he has been influenced by both western music as well as eastern music.
A well known face in the bangladeshi community Yamin has toured the world and has regular gigs on uk based bengali channels, channel S (814) in programmes such as Gane Gane Khela, Matir Sur, Sur Jolsha, Boythoki and on bangla TV (791) in programmes such as Rupban, Ronger Baroi, Poboner Boytha.He has worked with british asian underground artists such as Asian Dub Foundation, Suzana Ansar as well as accompanying pakistani classical exponants such as ustad shafqat ali khan (Pakistan) and Kankana Banerjee (of calcutta).
Yamin played tabla on the biggest bangladeshi hit to date, album KRISHNO by Habib which went on to break every sales records seen by any bangladeshi artist/album ever and regularly performs with sabina yasmin, runa laila, mumtaz, kumar biswajit, pantho kanai, farida parveen, khairul anam shakil, (late) Nilufer Yasmin, Rezwana Chowdhury (bonna), Kala miah amongst othersA student of Sanju Sahai (benares gharana) Yamin can accompany kheyal/thumri artists to bengali folk, nazrul geeti, adhunik gaan, lalon, to fusion music
