The guys in Mansions on Memorial come from various musical backgrounds. Chris Torres grew up as a passionate Sublime and Incubus fan, but trained in classical guitar for a few years and spent his sophomore year of college playing guitar for the the school's jazz ensemble. He also spent a few years as part of the school's chorus as a 2nd tenor. Being around all forms of music has inspired him to use it as his outlet of expression. Over the last four years, Chris has worked on the songs that would become the groundwork for Mansions on Memorial's sound.
Cody Kennedy comes from a punk rock, hardcore, and reggae music background (having lived in Hawaii, Guam, and all over the United States). He has played in a variety of bands throughout his teenage years, but even played saxophone for his high school’s band.
Paul Bonfilio has jammed in a number of the many basement scenes of Plymouth, MA and has a handle on both the acoustic and electric basses. Paul describes his bass playing experience as, "large parties of around twenty-plus musicians all jamming and drinking and smoking that enjoy playing together off each other at rippers!". He grew up loving the Beatles while he also has an affinity for Taking Back Sunday.
The balance of Mansions of Memorial’s sound revolves around Albert Werly. As the most gifted member of the band, Albert can play just about any instrument and has one of the best pair of ears you will find among modern artists. He has performed as a percussionist for the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, played keyboard and synth for the Polk County hardcore band Jezebel, is one of the key members of ambient music act Oh Glory!, plays drums for folk-rock band Asilo, and yet somehow finds time to be the drummer for Mansions on Memorial. He also runs Werly Bird Studios and has served as the main producer and sound engineer for the band.
Recently, the band has added Bobby Molina and Mike Hardy into the fold. "M.O.M." is Bobby's first experience in a rock band after many years of playing horn in orchestral ensembles. Mike Hardy (brought in to play keyboard) also shares similar orchestral experience, and like Albert Werly, is known for his work with Oh Glory!.
The name of the band stems from Memorial Ave. in Lakeland, FL. Known as one of the rougher parts of the town, you would be hard pressed to find any mansions in the area, just like you would have a tough time fitting Mansions on Memorial into Lakeland's current music scene. The band aspires to put out a fresh sound, one that does not allow itself to be limited by the latest trends and played-out subgenres.
Mansions on Memorial have plans to play shows in central Florida throughout 2009 and recently just finished recording their 6-song EP, which is set for release sometime in January or February of the coming year.
The band is currently in need of a manager to help with booking as well as producing merchandise. If interested, please contact us at
