Jimmy Richards is a folk pop singer-songwriter from Glasgow, now residing in Ayr. He was a founding member of Glaswegian grunge act Stacked Actors (now Junkyard Shift) and pop punk outfit Best Before End.
At the end of his time with Stacked Actors, Richards was already writing material for his acoustic side project, which soon became his main musical obsession. His songs are universal, concerning everything from the lost innocence of “Ice Creamâ€, the perils of too much drinking in “Tired and Emotionalâ€, his own personal traumas at the hands of ex-girlfriends in “Forgetting The Seaâ€, to the Dylan-esque political ramblings of “Staring At The Sunâ€.
Often compared to a mix of Frank Turner and Morissey, Richards has already drawn crowds to many of Glasgow's top venues, including the 13th Note and Nice n Sleazy. On top of this, he also plays bass for the up and coming poprock act Medusa's Curse (myspace.com/medusascurse), alongside emerging Dumfries based singersongwriter Emma Forman, and runs, part time, his own promotions company, NOL Promotions.
In his short career, Jimmy has already performed with some of the UK's riot folk stalwarts, such as Al Baker and Dave Hughes, as well as American folk singer and agitator Tom Frampton. His new EP, "Sky Fish Songs", is a collection of songs written over the past year, and includes the soon to be released singles "Tired and Emotional" and "Ice Cream (Summer Lasts Forever)".
He is currently in his second year at the University of the West of Scotland, studying Commercial Music. Jimmy's most well known track, “Ice Cream (Summer Lasts Forever)â€, was one of the last unsigned tracks featured on Jim Gellatly's XFM radio show.
