YUNG JAE THE PRINCETurning Tragedy Into Talent: The True Tale Of Yung Jae the Prince
STRAW INTO GOLD"Fantasia's right: Life definitely ain't no fairytale," says Yung Jae The Prince, holding head at temples, recalling the recent death of one of his family members. Yung Jae credits his brother Derrick (rap name Lil D) for his own interest in rap and for his perseverance in a genre of music often looked down upon.Yung Jae the Prince, (born Jimmy Ray Marks, Jr. in Los Angeles, California) was partly raised, along three of his eight siblings, by his maternal grandmother. When he was an infant, Yung Jae's parents divorced and Jummy's father (after whom he is named) repeatedly went to jail. At one point it seemed perhaps that Yung Jae was following in his brothers footsteps; getting in trouble at school and with the law.Around his 13th birthday, Jimmy's mother Dorothy Marks, who worked two jobs to support the family, reunited all of her children, bringing everyone together to live in her birthplace; Alexandria, Louisiana. Karst Park, a housing project located in Alexandria's "Nawfside," is rough in all the expected ways. "Some people take a vitamin every day. I was seeing people get shot every day." Luckily, Jummy Had Derrick as both inspiration musically and a mentor."Don't ever let anybody stop you from grabbin' your dreams and makin' em happen," Lil D told Yung Jae. These words stuck with Yung Jae , as he watched his brother gain recognition locally for his raps with the crew known auspiciously as bad Luck/Hard Lucka's for Life. "My brother is gone, and as for the others, I don't know what happened to'em, but I don't think they're rapping anymore," says Yung Jae the Prince. An exciting break came for Yung Jae The Prince when his brother was approached by a producer from Houston, Texas who needed a young rapper to do an openins show for the Hot Boys (Cash Money Records.) Derrick immediately suggested Yung Jae, and so at 13, Yung Jae the Prince performed verses for "what to me seemed like millions" at the Rapides Parish Coliseum, and he has been hooked on performing ever since.Yung Jae the Prince's single "Missing You" is currently being played on KKST, and look out, because his second single, "Jockin My Style", is on its way. Yung Jae the Prince is also working on his mixtape, My Life My Wordz: Mixtape Vol. 1, a promotional endeavor for Yung Jae the Prince's Upcoming album, which will feature many talents from his city "Lex-Town" Louisiana. Some have compared Yung Jae the Prince to the style of Chamillionaire and Bow Wow, but many of his fans say his style is unique. "People ask me why do I say Lex-Town Louisiana." I been Saying Lex-Town Louisiana for a long time since I started making music.....people didn't wanna here what I had to say at first, but now I have my whole city saying Lex-Town Louisiana, "Money Making City."
