Your Mistake

About Me

"From powerpop to 80's influenced arena pop/rock, there are bands that have a great vibe, and then there are bands whose lyrics grab ahold of you and that power is only reinforced through the energy of the music", says Stealing Heather's Joshua Aaron. "We tend to lean towards the latter. To me, the music industry is not just about putting something out that sounds like the current hit single on the radio, it's about pushing the boundaries and truly trying to make a difference in someone's life with your art, which can mean anything from excitement to sadness and everything in between."
When asked to explain the meaning behind the name Stealing Heather, Aaron had this to say; "Over the years I've watched as our society has taken a turn for the worse. When I sat down and really thought about it I realized that everything we do stems from the youth of our culture. When I was growing up I'd watch the Smurfs or Garfield on Saturday mornings. Today, everything presented to our children deals with violence and negativity. We are only creatures of our environment and the more we keep presenting our children with these images and sounds the more we will be forced to watch the outcome unfold. We are essentially stealing the innocence of our children. The name Heather just seemed to be the essence of a pure young girl."
The band toured following the last record's release (Six Minutes to Somewhere) and are now in the studio working on their follow-up album, tentatively titled "Your Mistake". From time to time, you may find a demo of one of the new tunes in the myspace music player above.
The band would like to thank all the fans for their support and encouragement. They look forward to seeing each of you when they come to your hometown!

Below is a letter Joshua wrote and posted publicly regarding the current state of affairs of the US government. Please take a moment to read and discuss it. Whether or not you agree with the statements presented, the band feels that it's important to get a strong dialog going with the people in your lives, regarding important issues of the day.
To all the voices and minds throughout the world,
Much like it was in the 60's and 70's when the masses rose up and declared their opposition towards the Vietnam conflict, we are all facing global issues that require a change. From the war in the middle east, to terrorism, global warming, poverty, AIDS, health care, and beyond, our voices and actions, as representatives of this planet, need to find a way to not only reduce, but eliminate the struggles we are all dealing with.
Gore Vidal made a statement that said, "if John Lennon stood for peace, Richard Nixon and George Bush stand for death". Well, Richard Nixon is no longer a relevant issue we need to address, but George Bush and whoever may succeed him in the upcoming election certainly is. Whether you consider yourself a republican, democrat, independent, liberal or conservative, the lies that were fed to not only the American public, but to the world at large, in order to engage multiple nations throughout the planet in conflict over nothing more than the fossil fuels we are rapidly exhausting is disgusting. We can make a change. Each one of us has the power inside ourselves to do something, no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time. Inspire someone, have a discussion about these issues, read the facts from all sides, encourage education and tolerance in our young ones, write a song/poem, write your congressman, post a blog. These are only a few of the vast number of possible things that you can do right now to start making things better.
After the 2004 election came to a close and George Bush was re-elected I wrote a song to inspire change and help people gain awareness. We close with that song at every show. The song is called " Better " and as of today, we are releasing it free of charge to the world. You can download a hi-res MP3 that we encourage you to share with everyone you know from our website, myspace , numberonemusic.com , and anywhere else the people of the world post it. A lyric sheet is available on our website in PDF form as well as on myspace next to the download link.
We hope that you can find it in yourself to become inspired and engage others in a peaceful, non-violent fashion to better understand the issues facing us all, and most importantly work towards a positive change.
Joshua Aaron
