About Me

Guitarist Joe Taylor (www.joetaylormusic.com) has been a successful New York recording artist and Film/TV composer since the late 80's. His first album, MYSTERY WALK, was a top-ten Billboard NAC instrumental hit, and his RCA-Victor release, SPELLBOUND, was a top-five Radio and Records/Billboard hit. Singles from both of these records enjoy heavy rotation in the NAC and Instrumental formats, and his collaborations with Dave Koz and Al B. Sure! have been mainstays on Urban Radio.
Joe's critically acclaimed TV and Film soundtracks have been heard on every major broadcast network, and he continues to score for both broadcast media and theater in New York City.
Joe just wrapped sessions at The Magic Shop NY with 2 dear friends and super musicians; Steve Holley and Paul Ossola, engineered by old buddy and Grammy Hog Steve Rosenthal.
Recently in LA at Sage & Sound Studios, Joe worked with Steve Churchyard (www.stevechurchyard.com) on the fabulous singer/songwriter LEE NESTOR's album for Moonwatcher Music (www.leenestor.com). Joe also wrapped a project with Steve, Kenny Aronoff and Chris Chaney at Sage.
Joe continues to tour with power trio THE WICKED FELINAS, and also tours in support of his new album ACCIDENTAL SUGAR for Moonwatcher Music. (www.moonwatchermusic.com).
Stay tuned for The Wicked Felinas' debut album

Influences:
Sounds Like: Los Angeles Times:
"Don't let the smooth jazz label fool you...Taylor rocks out like a cross between Santana and Pat Metheny, with a touch of Duane Allman thrown in."

Gannet:
"... Taylor's music is smooth and hypnotic... a clear and tasty guitar style."

Jazziz Magazine:
"The mood is romantic. Guitarist Joe Taylor is one of the few...creating a powerful mind/mood altering substance."

From MUSIC FOR AMERICA:

"HOW COME NOT ALL SMOOTH JAZZ SOUNDS LIKE THIS?"

Upon first listen, Joe Taylor could be called smooth jazz, but his guitar playing shows someone with experience and a sense of space and style that is generally something you'll hear on music more extravagant. Accidental Sugar (Moonwatcher) is the kind of title that is perfect for the quiet storm, and he sets the pace with the opening track, "Damage". The album goes through the moods and motions, where they would all sound perfect on a Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan or Gerald Albright album. There are times when he'll play with a Latin flair, other times he'll blues it up, and he's capable of handling everything with care. When one hears him, one knows that this is a true musician and arranger in every sense of the word, and fans of mellowed out guitar (playing a mixture of jazz and soul) will appreciate this greatly.

The big surprise is the cover of Gino Vanelli's "I Just Wanna Stop", featuring vocals from Al B. Sure!, where his voice has matured and he now sounds a bit like Maxwell. After hearing this, all I have to say is where's the full length album? Sure! should get Taylor and the rest of the guys to back him up. Put this on the radio, guys. Accidental Sugar may end up creating the kind of sugar that isn't so accidental, and perhaps that's why Taylor designed the album the way he did, from the gentle intentional kisses of "Damage" to the afterglow of "Do You Remember?"

The desired effect is nice, whether you concentrate on Taylor and the musicianship, or the mood of the music to take you to a world of tranquility. If this is supposed to be smooth jazz, how come not all smooth jazz sounds like this?
