BANDA DO PELÔBIOGRAPHYFollowing Michael Jackson's last video "They don't care about us" - recorded together with the Olodum group also from Bahia - and most of all after the great success obtained by Carlinhos Brown and his musical style also in Europe, Bahia's inexhaustible musical richness is not a secret for few connoisseurs anymore.BANDA DO PELÔ represents rightfully this new trend, gathering the numerous influences that are present in Bahia, the city which is today the pumping heart of the contemporary Brazilian musical landscape, from Samba-Reggae to Candomble's religious cults, from Afro-Samba to Axe-Music.During the last few years internationally famous artist have been establishing musical collaborations with this endless source of rhythms and aspiration: from Herbie Hancock and Peter Gabriel to Paul Simon and Jimmy Cliff.BANDA DO PELÔ is part of the New African-Bahian's Pop Music scene, it's composed of musician, singers, dancers, and was born in Bahia, putting together the different artistic influences present in Pelurinho, where its name comes from, and ancient area of Salvador de Bahia where once was the slave market, and that is symbol of this city.All the band's elements are Capoeira players, singers, percussionists and dancers who are able to do an entertaining and swaying show which completely exemplifies the most rooted forms of expression of Afro-Brazilian culture: from Axé music, with the unique use of percussions and solo singing. They are all true sons of Bahia: experts in Capoeira, a dance which has the form of an acrobatic martial art, now well known all over the world, and afro-dance.BANDA DO PELÔ has already collaborated - live and in studio - with artists such as GILBERTO GIL, JORGE BENJOR, GAL COSTA, CARLINHOS BROWN, DANIELA MERCURY, OLODUM, TERRA SAMBA, MARGARETH MENEZES, ILÊ AIYÊ , TOQUINHO GERONIMO, LARRY CORYELL, BILLY COBHAM, PINO DANIELE, they also appeared on the TV program "Te voglio bene assaje" on RAI UNO, with CAETANO VELOSO and LUCIO DALLA.During their tour of summer we must point out the gigs they played at Mettman in Germany with CARLINHOS BROWN, in the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Swizerland, at the Melkweg of Amsterdam and many other festivals around Europe where they have played with Terra Samba, Cesaria Evora, Gal Costa, Djavan among others.BANDA DO PELÔ has toured in the following countries: Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, France, England, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Checkoslovakia, Morocco, Turkey, Denmark, Holland, Slovenia, Hungary, Egypt, Greece, Cape Verde, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Tunisia and Israel.
